    Wasp Improvement Sketchbook

It's summer again and I have loads of time on my hands. Usually this is the time I improve most--though that's not to say I improve a lot. Anyways, I'll try to upload daily since I am planning to make art everyday, but sometimes things happen or I get too lazy (hopefully not though).

I would appreciate critiques. They will help a lot. Thank you :]

(I'll change this attachment picture later)

I'm working on drawing the head with an Andrew Loomis book. Drew these yesterday. Some of them are from observation while others are from imagination.

Keep going man, i'm starting a summer training schedule myself, I believe if you keep that rythm with faces study you will start to see some good progress in maybe two weeks ? I hope you will ! You're on the good path anyway !
I will be looking for your next updates !

Ho and, KEEP AT IT ! : D I have seen loads of "summer sketchbooks" last year, which lasted only one month or so, that's sad because they all had a good potential ! So keep rockin !

I am not sure how long you are taking for you Loomis head studies but take your time - do them as perfectly as you can. Read what he's talking about and apply it. These are solid and good practice - but the more you internalize what he is doing, the more it can become a tool. I think. This is only one guys opinion of coursE!! ( though I have done many many Loomis studies!)

Bleh late reply. Thanks Kevinwueste for the advice. I try to take in the information in the book, but sometimes I have to go back and reread things to freshen up my memory.

I'll be posting everyday hopefully after Wednesday since I traveling back and forth between houses and one of the houses doesn't have a scanner
And I found that it is important to always establish a viewpoint when drawing or else a person's head will look like an alien.

I've decided to go back to figure drawing again. So I started doing some more gestures and I can't believe it to me this long to realize what gesture drawing is about!:

Before I was more focused on having the gesture drawings looking good and 'energetic' instead of actually understanding why I'm doing gesture drawings in the first place. Now I've figured out why. I realize that gestures aren't about what the body looks like, but the movement of the body. Gesture drawings aren't just to make the figure look more alive and energetic [which is what I thought they were only good for], but it also helps me see through the figure and see whats hidden. I can't really explain this well, but I feel like understanding what gesture drawing is for greatly helps me understand where a body part is even if it is hidden by some mass from the body.

I've learned about gesture drawing when I was reading Vilppu last summer, but I haven't really absorbed the information until now that I've read it for a second time. I don't understand why I haven't figured this out before! Finally realizing this is like figuring out the answer to a riddle! I'm just like "Duh! you idiot, that was so obvious!"

My gesture drawings aren't that good, but I'm glad that I at least know why I am drawing them. Anyways, I did around 200 gestures today. Here are some (sorry for the poor quality, but I have a really cheap phone haha):

P.S. Please, someone tell me if I'm wrong about gesture drawings.
