Wink Mig's Sketchbook - back to the basics

    Hello fellow Artists!

I'm gonna upload my sketchbook, as much as possible, because I really need some improvement and for that I really go back to the basics in order to raise my skills. Every comment and critique are most appreciated. I really need this.

I hope I can count on your feedback guys, so bare with me

I started a new SB, did a few sketches to understand what exactly do I have to improve and I've realized that it was pretty much everything :o and my sketchbook paper sucks, it has texture, looks like you're watching Dr. Katz lol

    some doodles from imagination

some live sketches and from imagination

You're doing preety good by practising this much so try to keep it. I image how much we could develop our skills if we just practiced the same item everyday, you need a lot of discipline when doing it by yourself, but with a bit of support everything goes better.

I think you eye/hand coordination is already preety good, but I can still notice the trembrling lines. It's not that all the lines should be clean and smooth, but for what you're trying to achieve, to get a better line, it's very good to work in big formats- A3 size at least, because it helps you to get a better confidence in you line when making extended lines.

I alsho think you do very well in getting back into the basics because one thing that is very important is to REALLY understand and draw everything as if you were making a sculpture. You can notice that on the last magazine about anatomy from Imagine FX - everything has volume, and even in the drawings that don't have any shading you can notice that there are diferent planes and that the structure is solid, almost tangible. When you master this you can make a 3D model with a pencil XD. So volume and presence is one thing that you should keep in mind.

As to the digital paintings, they're good, especially the portrait and the rancho das coelhinhas girl. Nevertheless, one thing I can tell you is to make the effort of beggining with a big brush size and finnishing with a smaller. It's not that nobody ever switches constantly their brush size when they paint but it's important to keep in mind that before coing into the details, the structure must beestablished first. I can notice that on the bunny girl drawing but not that much on the portrait. In this one it seems that you started adding details and "sharping" the image before the structure was complete (ex: the zig-zag line on her lips and some strands of hair that looks like hay). Anyway I undestrand that you probably did it this way because of your short time.

That's all, I'll be sure to keep watching so be sure to keep posting

    update time

Didn't do lots of studies lately, but I thought I would keep posting just to keep it up...

I need to focus on what to study be more precise, and making goals every weeks. I need discipline lol

started some head studies...I've figured it out I need to approach much more angle perspectives

Some line pratice from photos studies.

    stuff from imagination...

and my first speed self portrait study in 30 minutes or so lol I did this at night before I went to bed so that can explain my mood xD

next time I'll upload some A3 stuff, I need to get used to draw in bigger size.

Darsy, I really did my homework haha thanks for the tips )

    Late update

Black Sun S. - thank you! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for stopping by!
Randomeister - much appreciated! wil do!

gaaaah I was supposed to update it sooner, but I just had the time now ;( don't give up on me :/

live observation drawing, I'm praticing some of this with my good friend Darsy ( check out his gallery too here on CA by the way, he's awesome http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=182710 ) every friday, after work in the animation studio.

(what the hell, or the scanner sucks or I really suck at image treatment in photoshop... looks so ugly here.. my lines don't look that heavy )

while I was waiting the subway and when at the park... quickly drawing random people.

My workplace is far away from my hometown so I have to catch the bus everyday. I usually take 45 minutes maybe, so I started to sit on front when I have the chance, and began to draw bus drivers. They don't have a clue I'm drawing them. Luckily, otherwise I wouldn't be here to update my blog hahha. ok moving on... ( My lines look messy obviously because of the bumpy roads, duh!)

I went to a chill out Art house where they sometimes hire people to pose nude, it was fun... indeed.

stuff from imagination (which makes me think that I really should make more anatomy studies.... :/ )

    from my new sketchbook

    that's all for now... I did some self-portraits but they really suck... I should've posted... but...kinda ashamed ... /sigh

    see ya

Great works as always, we have to study more! XD I'd still say to pay attention to tridimensionality of the forms and the different planes, to give your drawings a more solid look yeah

    UPDATEZOR

stroan - hehe, good to know! thank you very much!

Darsy - hey! oh yes we do! thank you for everything

    LePush
    - thanks a lot, I will continue for sure!

kevin - thank you! i'm flattered, I just passed on your SB, and you're amazing! its so good to have feedback from talented people also!

    hello!

I need to get used to update oftenly, or else I'll tons of stuff to show...

    right to left
Random Character Concept, some stuff from imagination and some street ads.

huh, yeah I have a valid explanation about these spots and the red ink here... I'm poor so I used to draw in the back too, to save some paper supposedly lol. And that taught me a valuable lesson: don't use copic markers on the back...ever. Self portrait (from the computer screen reflection) and live studies

It was this sketch's fault, although she could look innocent, she murdered someone AND the drawing on the back. Anyhoo, stuff from imagination. ( and yeah, I've been playing Mario Kart too ). And the girl on the magic carpet tells a little story of my life.

live studies, random people at the airport

    live studies and from imagination

BUS DRIVERS!yup. The last one, was a Zombie bus driver. (a failed attempt to paint shadows on his baldy head ) In the middle was a mix between balpoint pen, darkness, bumpy roads and bad driving also xD.

I swear if I gather this kind of stuff that much, I'm going to show it to the bus company I use to travel and demand a 1 year free pass subscription lol

this is my workplace. I get 1 hour to lunch, and every 30 minutes left or so, I make some live studies a bit, just to keep practicing. Still in progress

I've made some landscapes live studies and nude drawings I still didn't have the chance to scan it, as I soon I scan those, I will update it

    Thanks for watching

Need to find time to make some studies, in the meanwhile I just do live observation instead hehe
