pencil work is very strong as people have already mentioned. The maquette looks very cool as well. What medium are you using for the minotaur?

The maquette mino is just plasticine. The painting is the an under painting in acrylic.

pencil absolutely no problem! imho really great, so the creature concept! portrait is surely ok even if i prefer stronger contrast.

I know the sensitivities of artistic copyright. However, I am a little proud of this one. It was a long intensive self-imposed study of Matt Cavotta's Blood Knight from the MTG card game.
It is such a freaking cool image that I just had to have! So I slaved over this for around 5 months, making mistakes in colour and having to correct them. This is in acrylic paint so there is unfortunately no undo, only re-do.. but it was well worth the effort as my understanding of colour and using transparent glazes in this medium grew exponentially. Thanks for the input! I've been staying with traditional mediums only for the fact that I work with AutoCad day-in-day-out, and relish the opportunity to not look at a screen during my pastime as well. Although there are huge benefits of going digital, I'm just enjoying the ride (ups as well as down I can assure you) that paint and pencils are giving me.

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook at the words of encouragement means a lot, you are a beast with acrylic paint that master study is crazy good. i agree with you its def a shit hot pic. Checked out your process to its good to see it broken down. Do you find doing a lot of master copies helps?

No probs! Copying the masters is how some ppl prefer to develop skills. Me, I agree to a point. I look at particular artists that rock my world and analyse what they did to make the pic so eye-popping whether it be line work, colour choices, style, composition or whatever. The reality is if it inspires me to copy or utilise elements of the pic for my own, I know I'll enjoy the learning process more. My tastes in pics is broad but I am tending now to focus on figurative fine art for the time being. and there are plenty of dudes/ettes out there that blow me away with their art. So i see them as setting an artistic benchmark that I have to strive to achieve. But one teacher told me recently that practice the masters a little, but it is more important to just draw, draw and draw to develop ones own style. Hope this helps.

Yeah that does make sense, i used to do a lot of copying when I was much younger and when I started up again a few months ago just to get confidence back. I know just drawing is the only way to go to improve but sometimes it feels there are so many things to draw or learn it gets a bit overwhelming made even worse by how badly my own imaginative drawing turns out.
