    Jwmd2's Sketchbook

Well, I'm new here, but I guess this is a good way to get started. I'll use a few older images here, and I'll update with newer as they're made and scanned as best as I can.

About me: Nursing student that just happens to enjoy drawing in my spare time. I'm a easy-going person and like to joke around. I'm pretty friendly, too, so don't be afraid to talk back to me.

My favorite drawing subject is the human body in motion. As such, I tend to exaggerate or warp the proportions more than I really should, but then that's why I'm here-- to learn and improve.

Favorite artists include Edouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, Chuck Close, and of course the Masters such as Michaelangelo, daVinci, Raphael, etc.

Still, I am quite determined to improve. I appreciate criticism, especially well-thought and helpful. Tips are also appreciated.

I'm also willing to give some tips and critiques if you like.

Enough crap, here's some of my work:
EDIT: removed older art due to being quite out-dated, replaced with more recent drawing

Well better late than never, but I'll update this thread again. I've got to get more active in this forum since it looks very promising.

Drawing is from Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblett, Pg 79, (c)2001 NY, NY: DK Publishers

I appreciate critique, but I have been told elsewhere and I plan on working with the lines on the shoulders and buttocks and softening them a bit. will do this, but got distracted by my other drawings.

I will attempt to make more updates more often to keep my skills pretty apparent as i attempt to work and grow.

Good start! But still need improve proportions and construction of human body. As advice:
dont neglect drawing of simple form and object. Thants exercise bring knowledge of forms and interactions between them.

Thank you for the compliment and thanks for the feedback, but I'd like to get a little more detail if you don't mind: on working with forms more, are you recommending I try some schematic sketches, or is this more a thing to focus on drawing more figures in motion?

I'm working on some knee studies at the moment, so I will try to have some put up later today

    If you look this thread

You may see how can combine simple objects to draw correctly human figure. And as forms, from simple to the difficult co-operate among themselves.
To draw figure in motion can possible in this way

Sense in that at first to learn to draw spheres and cubes and then by means of these skills to draw difficult forms interpret them as simple. It is necessary to understand as that is arranged that we draw. At least principles.

Alright, I will certainly show off some gesture drawings I do sometime soon. I usually loosen up with them first, then I move on to tightening up the designs. Some people say I do that too much.

Thanks also for the link to the thread. I'll look into more of that guy's tutorial and drawings. You've been quite helpful.

Update-- long since overdue. lots of real-life things crawling in and a couple courses I've taken since I last posted here.

tiger is entitled "Napalm"-- done in lino cut and water-soluble ink
female is a pen and ink study from a life drawing course
    male figure is a self-portrait

Will hopefully be able to upload some larger-format drawings I've completed after I find a dependable way to capture them. Scanning is not a possibility.
