    Just another quick update.

I was trying to design an interesting Fae, something to practice painting a more detailed face for, but I didn't like where it was going. Remembering some old Fae mythos of 'horned ones' I ended up coming up with something a bit more alien.

really like your work. very inspiring for me.
i have a question: did you work a lot with color before going digital? cuz i'm on the verge of buying a tablet, but i'm worried about the learning curve. i have very little experience coloring, i hope i'll get it fast.

my favorite one is the pink rodent dinosaur. very weird and elegant, just like i fancy.
super impressed with the reptoid heads thumbs as well.

    keep it up, luvin it!

Good start, nice character designs. I would stay clear of those hairy lines, I know those are just sketches, but still they would look much better with solid lines. Keep it up!

I actually had very, very little experience learning colour before doing digital work. I jumped straight into it and to be honest I've only recently started studying it in depth. I can definitely say that if you get a hold of it it will make a marked improvement in your work moreso than any other art theory I can think of right now.

I can definitely recommend this book though:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Color-Light-...8330510&sr=8-1

Not only is it cheap it's also incredibly useful, you may have to read through it a few times to pick it all up, but if you've got the spare cash it'll be worth your while

Also thanks Pixel, will keep that in mind

Great progress with the last COW. I think some more randomness(if that's a word) to your texturse would really help especially with the branch he's on

I like both your comic and more realistic style!
Your colors often have very uneven saturation, though. Some parts are too saturated and distract from the composition. Some are too gray to grab one's interest where they should.
When choosing colors, try to combine the color of the light and color of the object rather than choosing one or the others.
Also, if you want to give your image more depth, try to keep the values simple. Don't make the background light if the foreground is light, too. The further an object is away from the "lens" the less contrast it has. Sometimes you do the exact opposite and it's somewhat confusing to the eye, even though given the context it's very clear.
Sorry if I went on a tangent here^^

    Keep up the good work!

great start on this book tchuk! A little hint: You're drawing the same portrait, pretty much in all of your designs, same features etc, probably your own. It's very common and it takes some concentration to break away from haha Also something I thought about last time I looked in here: Your cartoony stuff is very dynamic while your designs and more concept'ish stuff is a bit stiff, try to use some of those swooshy lines when you set up your design sheets, I'm thinking primarily of this: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...icture56-2.png which is very nice, linewise, but is built on a pretty unbalanced and stiff looking figure.

Anyways, enough nagging on my part! keep up the good work!!

Thanks Geb, yeah my mac is incredibly old and slow so when it comes to textures it's actualyl incredibly hard to work efficiently with them. Luckily I've scraped enough to get a new model so hopefully he textures of my work will increase over time now

No that's very useful thanks Xelar I've been studying this stuff but more often than not it just excapes me when I'm working. I think I box myself up during the process and I need to loosen up a bit.

It's actually not my face but I see your point in a lot of my sketches I've been doing on the side I've been working at changing the features more as I had also noticed that, so I'm keeping on top of it.

As for the stiffness, just as above I really need to loosen up a bit and you're right the pose on that figure was actually based on a reference though, maybe I need better references too

    But I digress, update time!

This Weeks CoW contest is also a personal favourite of mine too. It's to design a creature for the Magic the Gathering trading card game. I've been playing this for a few years so it'll be very cool to try designing some things for it.

Here's what I have so far anyway:

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY: This weeks CHoW was the Intergalactic Burlesque Goddess, my entry has actually made it to the point where it's fighting for the top spot by just a vote or two, here are some of the development ideas and sketches I did before creating the final piece:

The competition voting poll closes this Sunday night at 8PM (GMT+1). Why don't you stop by and take a look at all the entries, and don't forget to vote for your favourite (Link below)

I could spend hours looking at sketchbook. You have just so much going on in each image. I really enjoy how much you've incorporated animal and human features in these. its great stuff, thanks for posting it.

Came here from the CHOW Keymaster thread, I really liked your WIPs of the old guy with the children, was a solid design and composition. That said, I can see why it needed changed to fit the brief more. Your linework's looking good, as is your painting skills, mainly in lighting. The colours and brushwork on this guy are great too though:

    Experimenting with colour schemes.

And thanks Mullseynga and Choob, those are really kind words and definitely a good reminder to keep trying As for the lighting Choob I think I've just managed to grip it even better since drawing that image so maybe I'll take it a few steps back and begin working on it anew.

Heh, hey again Wing. It was for a uni project, design 5 characters and then complete one with turnarounds and expression sheets etc. Kinda wish I chose the Grim Reaper Bear though, hence the facial sketches for him.

This is actually up for vote at Qwertee which is pretty cool (It's a shame I was limited to 6 colours, I could've really made this stand out, might go back to it at some point and make it really slither.
