The pelican spider has officially joined the jumping spiders in my list of favorite spiders!

Browsing the web the other day I stumbled across this monster wasp

Its 2.5" and its jaw is bigger than its legs. Not sure what its called.

Tarantula Hawk Wasp. Good grief what people dare holding in their hands.

Crab spiders are cool. Here is a pink one

Yeah, I draw the line at wasps and mosquitoes.

    Badass.

Oh yeah, the thing they just killed?

The Japanese Hornet, which grows to almost 3 inches long and has a sting that, well...

The potency of its sting derives from the relatively large amount of venom it is able to inject with each sting.[2] Being stung is extremely painful and requires hospital treatment. On average 40 people die every year of anaphylactic shock after having been stung,[1] which makes the Japanese giant hornet the most lethal animal in Japan, as bears kill about ten people and venomous snakes kill five to ten people each year.

Well, I think I see it preening its antennae so I'd say no. However I guess if it's separated or something and the guy isn't trying to actively prod it, it's not going to sting out of pure spite.

BIRDS! The shoebill looks like a real psycho from a right angle:

    (LET'S GET DANGEROUS)

And this happened in somewhere (zoo etc) where the duck just got too close to the shoebill and it picked it up a dropped it further with no harm, because apparently they like their personal space:

The duck's face is hilarious though

    And pink eared ducks!

    Guys, say hello to Brutus

Yes, before anyone calls it, that's a real picture. He's one of the bigger
Salt Water Crocs and is quite the celebrity. Apparently he lost his one
    arm fighting a shark.

There's a video of his routine, but it got set to private.

Boo. Cool croc, though. Aren't crocs, turtles, and sharks some of the most long lived orders of fauna on the planet? I remember reading that Crocodilia existed before even the dinosaurs.

EDIT: Ok, wikipedia says that the branch Crocodylomorpha came about during the Mesozoic Era, and the order Crocodilia was during the late Cretaceous. So they appeared along with the dinosaurs (and "modern" crocs when the COOL dinos were around), but DID outlive them by a long ass time.

    Anyway, geckos.

    And skinks.

EDIT: Ok, I'm aware that Tasmanian Devils are currently endangered due to a widespread (and very horrific-looking) disease that only affects them, and they're also very susceptible to being run over on the road, but this has to be the greatest animal crossing sign ever made.

What better way to make sure drivers KNOW which animal to look out for than to draw the thing with it's darling maw wide open.

Devils are some viscous little bastards, but I'll be damned if they aren't adorable.

Oh, and before I forget. You know that fish video I posted the other day? Well if you haven't watched it...

dude, maybe it makes your life easier to believe in some mystical country called "malaysia" but this is the 90s and i think youll find most people here dont.
in the past people believed the earth was flat, but now we know its round. similarly some people believe malaysia is a real place. some of them even started out not believing and then 'found' malaysia in the course of their lives.
all i know is, until someone can prove malaysia exists im aemalaysiaist.

Dpaint what is that monster? I really like how you didnt kill her though, I hate people who smush bugs when they can just pop them out the window.
    even if they are everywhere.
I heard in normal life your almost never further than 3 feet from a spider. Im usually a lot less as they live in my hair and pants.

Another factoid "At any time, it is estimated that there are some 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000) individual insects alive."

and "A recent article in The New York Times claimed that the world holds 300 pounds of insects for every pound of humans."

I think when we're out among the stars, encountering stuff thats so strange it hurts our minds, we'll see insects, and all things from earth, as family.
I also think we'll be pretty pissed at ourselves for allowing so much of our peeps to die. Because we ate them and stuff.

dpaint-I caught a spider just like that once. I also had an ant problem and a krispy kreem donut. I named the spider Spartacus and he won the first round. Round 2 didn't go so well for Spartacus.
