Looking for contemporary artists with surrealistic influencies

Hi Guys, long time Lurker-First-Time-Poster here (but I think I would post more often, I learned a lot, and the artists here are amazing and seems pretty gentle )


now, going on topic, I have to make a presentation for a Humanistic class about Surrealistic art, so far I think is comming up really good, but I would like to add more info about contemporary artists in this style (I only have info on Dalí, Matta, Chirico, Magritte, Esao Andrews, and a few others) and the current state of the style



also If someone here post something influenced by this style I would be happy to use it on my presentation

Look into "Magical Realism"...it's the "new surrealism".

Some of that is pretty cool Bill. Some of it shows a winged monkey pulling a penis out of a hat (ok, technically it's a dildo, but I didn't want to write dildo).

Aside from flying phallic symbols , I thought "magical realism" is generally related to the mostly German art movement during the thirties(?), that sadly lacks winged organs. Great stuff, capturing the zeitgeist pretty well, imo.

On topic (sort of), isn't most of the fantasy and sci-fi stuff essentially surreal in it's nature? There's plenty of that around..

@v0rbiss: not really (at least Sci-fi, don't know about fantasy), surrealism tries to disorient, Sci-fi tries to explain the context


surrealism tries to open de subconsiusness and it isn't necesary to understand it
if in sci-fi you don't understand something, then you are doing it wrong


at least in IMO though, Im no arts expert

Not sure how tightly these guys qualify as surrealism but I love how they have images that give you a fresh, although sometimes obvious, perspective on some familiar things, like Magritte did.
