    I shit you not!

So, itīs time for an update again.

First some sketchbook pages (horrible quality, Iīm sorry!)

Two character designs. The blue guy was the entry for the recent chow, but I didnīt quite make it in time. Itīs still WIP and I will finish it in the next days hopefully.

Also some designs and sketches of the university-project, Iīm currently working on.

    Happy painting!

Great pencils, great values and even greater character designs. Conclusion: You are awesome!
Really can't get my eyes of the naked girl study on page 2, and that is not (only ) because of the breasts. Really amzing how soft it is, yet, specially under her right boob, are very sharp parts. How did you get to this result? Are you using masks or something?
Either way, amazing work, keep it up!

    Thank you ;D

Itīs a very simple method. Hereīs a little tutorial. I hope this makes it clear.

take a big sized, soft brush and just lightly paint outside the selection with a darker/ligther value. Whatever you need in your case.

    __________

Recently I began to play around with brushsettings. Iīm not making crazy custombrushes, but just tweak the properties to fit my needs. So I ended up creating a flat, hard brush with anglerotation depending on pen pressure.

here are a few characters, made with this brush and I personelly really like them very much. Iīm very curious what you guys and gals think about them.

Is it possible to read them well or is it just too busy? Maybe it only makes sense in my mind, but in reality itīs just impossible to recognize anything in this scribble mess?

thanks for dropping by! See you

Thanks a lot! I also love this play of hard and soft edges. Hope to find an easier way, because I feel my technique is too inconvenient.

maaaan, your rendering technique is really awesome, and the rondoudou head in the B&W peace make me laugh so much..
I think maybe your poses and line forces could be a little more subtils and worked on your character design pages, it would let people go further in what those characters are about,
    anyway keep sharing!

Hey Thatīs definetely something I need to work on. The thing is that I often find myself disappointed, when I go over into line work, because the dynamic I love about those sketches, gets lost. But I will try to find a way. Thanks!

LePush I will, thanks for your encouragement

So I brought the use of the lasso tool to another level for me I worked on a few portraits without ref and it turned out surprisingly well, in my opinion. Almost every plane on the face was defined with the lasso tool and a soft brush. I really like this look.
This method wonīt work for much else than portraits I guess, but nevertheless itīs a lot of fun and pretty quick.

the lasso tool/soft brush makes the portraits look like renders! very cool
and I think that brush work you're doing with the character designs are very nice, they read great, not too busy at all

any luck of you offering that brush up for download?

the thing I noticed though, more in your first few posts is that your edges tend to get lost in your digital stuff, more so with those mini environmental studies, but then you could have just focused more on color

however I do think some of the digital stuff the edges could be a little harder

    keep it up

    Very nice studies.
You seem to have really good understanding of values.
It's good to see nice clean lines and shadows on your sketches.
Some of your more cartoonish designs reminds me a graffiti approach like second sketch on #80 post, am i right?
Don't have much to write now but keep working on body forms and structures.
    Cheers!

    Hey guys & gals!

    Philipp Scherer
    Thanks, buddy

cgaddict Thanks! Itīs time to try some color, I guess

PITCHBLACK Yeah, those creatures were fun ;D Thank you!

knut- Thanks for the feedback, knut! Graffiti was never a influence for me, but I sometimes add some graphical elements to my drawing. Should do it more often and experiment with more abstranct structures.
