values are looking good man, now just try to be more specific with how you place shapes in the face so the proportions are correct. Its already really close but just needs a little bit more specificity

Sketchbook!
You have some really nice anatomy studies here - keep up the good work!
purb: Thanks for the crit! that's something I'm still getting the hang of I suppose, though I'll definitely bear what you said in mind. Thanks again!
Marc: Thants Marc! Will do, I generally tend to just quickly fling down any old shape as long as the value is roughly accurate. In future I'll be sure to place more refined shapes as I progress.
Chermilla: Thanks! Will do!
Just dropping these by, not enough progress made elsewhere to post anything else.
Some more screens.
Hey Mac, quick few cents from me, when doing any object related scene, adding a focal, more contrasting point might help the image to be read in a much better way, than just keeping it whole at the same contrast level![]()
Thanks for visiting my SB!
Nice value studies here, I like the traditional ones... I better go back to acryllics some time heheh
Very nice practice with the grayscale. Don't you love how the value training pretty much rocks? =D A nice variety of subjects - is that Sean Bean as Ned, I see? - and all the different lighting. Man, your SB's fattened up a lot since I last saw it. Glad you're still rocking it!

Justas: Thanks Justas! Yeah, that's another thing I'll have to bear in mind when I return to the studies, i.e. interpreting the reference rather than copying it.
_Quasar_: Thanks Quasar! Yeah, I hadn't touched acrylics in about 4 years prior to those, it was great fun tto muck about with real paint again!
Shroudstar: Thanks! Yes,gotta love some Game of Thrones studies! Thanks for the compliments!
1000th post!
..ahem
Anyway, fell away from art for a while there, got sucked into an architectural abyss... So, here's some digital mental health sketches to relieve some pressure, been having great fun with al.chemy! Such a fun chaotic program!
Heya,
Just took a look at the last few pages and in spite of your suggestion not to look at the first few pages...I did!
It's great to see all your work over the last three years...and inspiring to see the progress from it.
Keep up the great work...it's paying off!

Jepher_X: Thanks Jepher!! Ha, I appreciate you browsing the earlier pages, it's a great motivational tool really to be able to maintain a progress log like this.
The advantage of such a log is being able to post atrocities like this and know that it leads to learning!!
(Incidently, regarding the strange coulours on the study, that was an experiment in beginning with complimentary colours - the hue is way off, but the value is somewhat correct).
Ok so here's some recent sketches and some sketchup / vray tests. Just trying to keep the creative thoughts flowing...
Oh there are some horrible issues in that marine's power armour, guess I was thinking more about getting the forms in roughly the right places... then again it's nearly cubist in some of its distortions..

Quick play with sculptris between college work. Quite fun once you get the hang of it, I look forward to putting the effort into a longer sculpt when I get the time. Head, horns and neck sculpted in sculptris, quick sloppy body and background applied in PS afterwards.
Just thought I'd throw up some evidence of what keeps me from spending as much time as I'd like on art. Surely someone here is interested in this type of stuff. I'm currently designing a sawmill to occupy an old rail yard. This has in many ways been an experimental project for me, architecturally it's a neat experiment in lamella structures (the wooden roof - the interesting thing about lamella structures is that they use many short straight lenghts of timber to create a curve), and also a good excuse to get to grips with rendering software.
The medium is sketchup rendered with vray.
The Volvo Loader has been pulled from the 3d warehouse, the rest is the product of my own blood, sweat and digital tears!
keep pushing the studies mactire! the latest 3D render of the lamella structure is impressive and i must commend you for being able to sculpt out all the weaving action going on with the small timber slots to get that 'curved' roof as you described XD. much patience is to be had with this sort of thing i'm sure of it
anyway, keep at it!

teapo: Thanks man! I actually really enjoy working with sketchup so I didn't mind the complexity of this that much. Thanks again!

Here's some doodles done after college work, fooling around really, just trying to keep the creative juices flowing!
Those sketches in the Alchemy program ... I am loving them![]()
Hey dude, sorry I've only been sticking my head in here for the briefest visits recently. Too busy to get some crits going!Your stuff is still coming along and looking excellent. I think the idea of a cubist Space Marine is pretty awesome, but your one is still too grounded in realism to qualify for that honour.
Maybe you should try and make a cubist Space Marine as an exercise?
I'ld like to see how that pans out.

Reika: Thanks Reika! Alchemy really is a great program for just having fun in!
Donal: Thanks Donal! No problem! Ha, warhammer cubism is an interesting thought alright, but I was only referring to the fact that parts didn't relate or match up, cubism wasn't really the goal. Thanks anyway!
I had my final project final review on Friday, thought I'd share some of the more atmospheric images on here. As for the workflow, the whole project (sawmill design) was initially designed with pencil and paper, then refined in 3d as a sketchup model. That was roughly textured and rendered with vray, and then further textured and populated using photos from the web and taken on the site.
Just did some quick sketches figures from imagination to try my hand at some rendering (I'm aware of the many errors in the figures, they were particularly loose sketches to work off). Have'nt had much time at all to do art recently, though it will all change in little over a months time when I finish!

Tried my hand at another one from imagination, bit better this time but still had to watch out at times when she started to look like chrome!
this is rather lovely, looks like a californian train station. very nice!

Velocity Kendall: Thanks man! Yeah, it was rather approriate that it ended up looking somewhat station-like given that the site was a disused frieght yard!
Quick update, decided to tackle some colour. Approx 1.5 hours from ref:
Wow man, awesome studies and poses, you are a big inspiration for me to work hard so I can improve!

Yo mate, great sketches everywhere. What i like very much is that you start putting your knowledge into creativity. You have nice characters in here. Now you have to keep up these great studies and keep upgrading your creations, so keep up studying and applying.
Ahh btw these 3d stuff are delicious.
See ya man!!

kostas: Thanks mate! Will do!
I'm absolutely delighted with how this turned out. I just picked up the pen and before I knew it I was drawing one of my favourite cartoon characters Dick Dastardly, and then I threw caution and irrational fear to the wind and proceeded to paint. Granted it's not the best but it means overcoming an obstacle and that means progress! I may return to him in future for some spit and polish (this has all been from imagination so far, with a couple quick glances at Wacky Races to remember the costume - I haven't done any rigorous studies in months), though at the same time I'd also like to try my hand at redesigning the characters and cars. Anyway, enjoy! I know I enjoyed painting him!

Trying my hand at some streaming!! http://livestre.am/1lSo3
EDIT: Stopped, I knew my internet connection was bad but I didn't think it was that bad. It doesn't seem fit to stream at all, keeps losing the connection and breaking up the recording.

So, as of last Monday (14th May) I completed my degree in Architecture (hopefully). In my college it’s mandatory to take a year out before taking a Masters in Architecture, so I’ve decided to take it upon myself to improve as much as I can in the coming year, with the aim being to get a good portfolio going to try to get work before I return to do the Masters. As part of the motivation I intend to maintain a blog and my conceptart.org sketchbook in order to document the progress, and I shall be attending the London Atelier for Representational Art (LARA) for the academic year beginning this October, which I am particularly looking forward to!
I may try my hand at streaming too, though I won't be setting procaster to save the videos, my connection is so hopeless it breaks streams up into segments that average about 1 minute each...
I guess that's it, it's deathline time!
So here's some images; the last renders I produced for college, and work from today. namely a clothed figure study, some timed figures from reference, Michael Hampton's book and imagination (the larger ones), and a sketchy illustration to get the ball rolling! Enjoy!
Some stuff from today, two armour studies from reference (the one of the older knight with hat was mandatory, he looks like one of my previous tutors), and a knight from imagination to apply what I learned about armour / metal (and completely ripping off the Dark Souls art with the armour against black background!).
I'm enjoying your sketchbook so faryou got some very nice studies! those 3D render you posted came out very cool, keep it up man, i'm looking forward for more!
Gpozzo: Thanks! Have some more!
Ok, not as productive a day today, only a rushed study and an even more rushed sketch to show for my efforts. So to counter that I'm also uploading some alchemy sketches I did a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
