Natural Patterns (Updated 5/2/12) Human Nature - Christopher Queen Gallery

Scroll to the last update! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...&postcount=204

    Hey everyone,

I am participating in this month's group show at the Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco where I had my solo show earlier this year. The show is called Woodland and I created these new paintings for it.

They are both 10x10" oil on wood panel. I posted up WIPs on Facebook that you can check out here: LINK

If you are in the area and want to check out the show, you can RSVP for the event here or here.

This is the start of a new direction I am going in with the pattern concept I've been working with for the last year and a half. Rather than having the pattern interact with the skin of the model, it is growing out of the cloth and into the background. I hope you enjoy them.

Great to see your work again. I was looking at your facebook, and it seems to me like you were working with 2 paintings at the same time, am I right?

Yea I am always working on multiple paintings. only one on the easel at a time though, if that's what you mean. I will get them to a certain stage and then rotate em out

    Liking these.
Beautiful fluttering brushwork weaving, darting and building form as it does so.
    A pleasure to look at.

Hey everyone, here is another piece from the “Natural Patterns” series.
This painting is water-mixable oils on watercolor paper. It’s a fun medium to work with, but only if you treat it like another water-based medium, NOT like traditional oils. It was a medium I had completely dismissed back in the day when I was still really learning to paint, but it was because I was trying to use it just like oils. It feels and acts much more like acrylics, especially when thinned out. You can get a nice sheen to it if you build it up and use the linseed oils made for it.
“Luminian,” 26.5×17 inch water-mixable oils on watercolor paper mounted on board.

Super stoked to have this piece showing alongside some of my favorite San Fran artists and peeps at the Studios show this Friday!
You’re going to want to go, because you are going to get an unbelievable deal on it, but only for the one night it’s up. It’s gonna be so good, you’re going to have to go see it in person!

    From 7:00pm till 10:00pm - Friday March 23rd
    The Studios
80 Langton, San Francisco, CA 94103

Hey everyone! If you've been following my blog over the past couple of months, you will have seen the first few efforts of this new series I've been working on. I am going to post the rest of them that I finished just in time for the deadline to the show. They are all at the gallery now, and they are already getting major kudos. As a matter of fact, two pieces have been sold already, and the pieces haven't even officially been put on sale yet! I'm really psyched for the opening reception, and I hope you can check out the show if you are in the area!

"Golden Ether" 15x10 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Jalini" 16x10 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Ardent" 12x15 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Concordance" 12x18 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Passerine" 24x15 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Soletta" 28x16 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Alamere" 28x20 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

"Elanis" 20x30 in. Oil on Linen Panel.

I made an hour-by-hour time-lapse gif from the Instagram photos I was taking while I painted this. Lots of fun!

Very nice paintings!! Maybe I should talk some girls into posing nude for me in a forest... Do you take photos and paint from those?

The paint surface of these is stronger than your other series. Quite a pleasure to look at just because of that, not even counting the beautiful rendition of light and form.

Golden ether appears odd with the drapery appearing to be stuck in place and not blown by wind to half cleverly cover up her parts and make the painting more pg but the rest obviously don't have that problem.

Do you size or otherwise treat the watercolor before using the water soluble oils? If there is any medium I've dismissed, its them; nice to see you do something great with a less than popular medium!
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

Human Nature: Christopher Queen Gallery Show

The exploration of fabric continues! This time I am exhibiting my efforts at the Christopher Queen Gallery for the Human Nature show(May 6 to July 8). I feel like I am really getting a handle on these series, especially the Sacred Spring one. I personally feel like these are some of the best paintings of the series, and I am hoping the audience agrees.

"Sabellia" 24x12" Oil on Linen board.
This painting has the frame on it from the "Camellia Roses" painting.
It looks much better on this painting.

"Diva" 16x12" Oil on Linen Board.

"Lucia" 16x12" Oil on Linen Board.

"Lucid Awakening" 24x12 in. oil on linen panel.

"Maiden of the Mist" 24x12 in. oil on linen panel.

If you want to check out the show it's going to be up starting Sunday, May 6th and will be up until July 8th.
