    Katriin's Sketchbook... watercolors and sketches

Well, I tried this once, but my work wasn't very serious a few years ago, so I figured I'd give it another go. I'm a 21-year-old art student majoring in illustration. I would like to master watercolors, but I also work in charcoal and digital media. And I appreciate constructive crit.

This is the most recent life painting. The teacher wanted me to use only flat washes, instead of blending wet into wet.

You have a really nice sketchbook!

How long did the studies in #8 take to make approximately?
-Just curious since I personally would spend at least 15 out of 30 min trying to figure out the colors :p

I see a lot of great things here, and I admire your watercolorskills

The figure paintings were ten to fifteen minute poses. Unfortunately, things started falling apart in the sitting poses, but the standing ones were pretty easy....

The professor required us to use only three colors--in this case it was rose madder, cadmium yellow hue and cobalt blue hue. The first studies were just burnt sienna and ultramarine.

    Thanks for the comment!

    A new direction...

Recently started working in egg tempera. One of these learning projects:

Basically painted on top of a digital sketch that I printed out onto rives bfk. Combining digital and traditional art is the way I think I want to go..

Painting traditionally atop a digital work? Totally backwards from what I typically do myself , but sounds interesting. Do you find this process useful?

Also really like the sleeping girl and her pet. Very dreamy.

@Lostcookie: Working digitally first made painting the values much faster. I was too rushed for this one (it was a school assignment), but for future pieces I can also mess around more easily/quickly with the composition in the computer. And thank you.

    Winter Project

My goal is to try to update my sketchbook at least three times a week, preferably once a day. Beginning with a project I am working on to build up my portfolio, where I make up imaginary stories and then illustrate scenes or book covers for them. This one is supposed to be a teen novel, adventure/love story.
