Hey thanks f1x. If you're talking about the edge being disperse, I would totally agree with you, that's what I'm trying to fix in this post.

As for the IOW, it was finished, but then I got fed up with the image in the end. You know, at first I thought it was really funny, and then after looking at it for a while, it's not that funny anymore.
    Here's the final.

Hey StarEater, glad that helped. And thanks, the bottom left is my favorite too, but I chose the other one because I like how Perseus fits into the comp like a Franzetta painting^____^. Reminds me I should really get to work on that thing.

Thanks very much Crane, JokerKillJoy, bouroune, featheredface, will pump up for stuff.

So both these studies took way longer, but I think I improved a hell lot. Basically I tried to experiment more with edges. Rendering everything out with an airbrush, and it helped SO MUCH.

My conclusion, when big blocky brushstrokes work better sorta with more stylized stuff. When trying to be realistic, it's a lot better(at least in my aesthetics) to leave most stuff soft rather than hard.

And I painted my living room. Oh maaan, I've lived here ever since I was like 10(before I went to the States of course), so many childhood memories, I LOVE THAT COUCH! In a sense, it is a study, but I enjoyed it so much that it isn't really a study, I guess. In the end, the light changed so I never get to finish it.
It's also the first time I ever painted rooms like this. I quite enjoy this, might do a lot more in the future.

Liking the medusa piece. From personal experience though. I know exactly what you mean about getting bored of a piece, but it usually leads to you breaking it or giving up on it later. I'm trying to force myself to figure out as much as possible upfront these days, and make sure it's something I want to finish. Keep up the good work anyways!

Hey dude! You've got a good thing going here, I like your figures pretty much. I guess... look at those rendered faces on page one, they look really well. When I see how much time I put into face studies and I see my results I think you did like a hundred times more studies.

Keep the thing going. And a lot of good artists are self taught or at least mostly self taught. Give it all !

Haha thank you Veshkau, you rock HARD.
As for the boredom, I think the problem is twofold. First of all, we might not be too inspired to do the piece, and secondly, piece itself might simply too boring. Obviously they sorta tie into each other, but in this case, I just need to make my painting as exciting and action packed as my vision as possible, even though I'm doing pretty poor at it so far

Springheeled, ezekrialase, thanks, come back for more.

Charmer, thanks very much, studies are the way too go. Miles and miles of pencil trail xD

    A lame expression study.

So, I tried to paint a Frazetta drawing. I learned so much about SKIN TONES. This is a great exercise, but unfortunately, I was absolutely drained after this. Completely exhausted trying to make it work.

More progress on the Medusa. I think the action is really lacking in this, so I completely redid the Medusa.
And here we go, action und drama(well, if it works)!
The idea is that Perseus blinded Medusa with his laser-shooting magical shield and took the opportunity to defeat her. Hopefully that reads. Maaaan, spending long hours on a painting hurts mein hand.
The snakes are really horribly composed right now, but I'll fix it later.

Well, about 10 or more hours later. Maaaaaaaan, back anatomy is so fucccking difficult. It's impossible to get right even after copying Goldfinger and Simblet's diagrams for like 40 times. Well, the gap between anatomical diagrams and real forms is tremendous! So lots of trial and errors here.

I've already spent up to 25 hours on this, all those re-drawings and re-paintings, and it's about the furthest I've ever pushed an illustration like this already, and it's still got a lot of work to be done @_____@ But then, I'm happy that I decided to try the Teen Challenge anyway. I kinda push hard when there's a deadline involved xD

    that room looks spot on.

with the medusa one, his shield is exactly the same colour as her belly so it looks like one object. the guys left shoulder is severly dislocated.
    her arm looks good though

looks like youre going about everything in the right way, just keep practicing, doing work you enjoy, and youll be awesome in no time

An update on the Medusa, I'll more or less redesign the Medusa later, adding details near the focal point, rendering out the snakes and all that. But for now, I actually rendered out Perseus!

    Some figure studies.

A word on these. They are done by really carefully and neurotically trying to accurately copy the shape, and after reaching a somewhat finished stage, overlaying the drawing over the photo to correct all the mistakes again. Takes crap ton of time, but then, this really really forces to see the true shape of the figures. And it's really really really helpful.

Nice updates. The pose of the warrior vs medusa seems a bit awk but i like the composition, how the figures interacts and your eye moves from protagonist to medusa and back. I see you use similar range of color/value palette such as the red & olive and would encourage you to experiment with other colors or ideas!

keep it up, really dig the boy on the dragon.

@Veshkau, haha thank you. That did help.

@Mangix. Great crits. I do have an unhealthy obsession with red&olive, so I did two pieces in green., need to get the variations
And yeah, the pose of the medusa piece is still weird. I will fix it later.

And I finished the dragon rider. Missed the poll though >____<

So here are two things I did for the now CHOW: Alien Gardner.

This idea is that these rather surprised humans hired a gardner called Wilhem Juks von Kas-Vladmovic from craiglist and he turned out to be a six-armed ALIEN!

Drawing Aliens is just so much fucking FUUUUUN. So here's another sketch, about 2 or 3 hours or probably less. Thinking of an lizard while doing this. I think the body's not alien looking enough right now.

I like your style, I'd say you have a little bit of an own note in every drawing/painting which I find is a good thing. Keep it going Aaron! Your organic shapes already look good, but they would be a lot better if you'd loosen it up a bit more and giving them a small bit more dynamics.

    Keep it up,
    Flo

Too many sketchbooks in this forum that deserves better ratings. Your work is great, loving your colour palette. Some of your work, like this one, shows a sensibility that is really special.

Like I said, I love your palette, but some textures that you apply take away from the form. Just look a little into that - it's not such a big problem. Also - and this is just a personal opinion - you might want to look into harder brushes in the initial stages.

Anyway, overall, your work is awesome. Five from me, keep them coming.

Thanks a lot everybody for your replies, especially ohucthulhu, Charmer and Vritra for the great critiques. It's much appreciated.

And Julie, I know what you mean, but it's hard not to at least get discouraged a little bit when you see young kids(I mean like 15 year olds) who just kick so much ass despite having almost no training at all ;D

So lemme shit out a variety of work, studies and doodles.

Like all the mileage you've been putting on. Some of these creatures are pretty wtf though.... hahahaha. Your line work is getting loose man, time to get back to some traditional stuff. My favorite one lately is that first portrait in #57. It's just so creepy and awesome at the same time.
