Hello CA community, I have finally decided to bite the bullet and make a sketchbook.

I have had a passion for art from a very young age and had been pursuing a career in art up until about 6 months ago. During that period I took the time to consider my future and to decide if art is really something I want to make a career of, or just a hobby. I am pleased to say that I have recommitted to seeking a career in art. It's what I love, it's what I must do! So now my goal is to be to attend TAD with a year or two, depending on financial aspects.

My hope is that having this sketchbook and surrounding myself with a community of artists will keep me dedicated to my goal.

So here goes!

The first is a painting I recently finished and the others are sketches I did the other night at a coffee shop.

Here is a bunch of portrait sketches and a drawing of a building downtown that's a work in progress, all done over the weekend. Also, a plein air watercolor painting that I did today.

Today I wanted to do some plein air painting after work...but by the time I got everything ready to go there was only about one hour left of daylight. So I decided instead to do an alla prima painting of a pineapple inside my studio. It took about 1.5 hrs.

I'm also posting an ink and watercolor sketch I did last night at the pub. It was taco Tuesday!

Here's a compilation of head studies from a book by Burne Hogarth. "Drawing the human head". I really feel like I am finally understanding how the forms of the head work and not just knowing how to draw a head from the front/side/back.

The first piece is from the bar with some friends, it was very dark and everything was in red light...so it was hard to tell what I was doing. It was quite fun though! 2nd is a Japanese-esque park down town.

Hello Blazin0Glory,

You're having some problems with your perspective in most of your drawings. For instance, you have your horizontal lines going in various directions that don't make physical sense: man-made buildings are generally regular shapes; the lines should vanish into a common point or never intersect. Your building drawing understands this, but your other observational drawings do not. With the three people sitting at the table, their chairs are not resting on the same plane (the floor), so the floor looks warped.

I can't say much about your anatomy because you only have one at the beginning, but you should study up some muscles to learn where muscles bulge and what direction the bulges take.

@ Fishysmell, you are right...the perspective is really wonky in my drawings. I think I'm drawing too quickly and not paying attention to the perspective. I know how perspective drawing works, I just haven't been focusing on applying it to my sketches. I have been meaning to refresh on perspective drawing, so now I will. Thank you. Also, you can leave the image critique up if you want.

The attached image is some hand drawings (my hand) and a face. I did them because I want to get more comfortable with digital media. So hopefully I will be posting more digital stuff.

I've been thinking about investing in a plein air set-up for oils. Anyone have advice on that?

I've started taking a figure drawing class! Here are my drawings from the first session. I think I need to work on getting my forms and proportions correct before I jump into tone.

thanks for stopping by my page, i havent been on for aaaages.

life drawing classes are great, do as much as possible,
i've done it a couple of times at college. Hoping to do loads at uni.

Theres not much advice i can give ya really but i can see a huge
difference between the figure in the first drawing, and those in the last.
Did you use reference in the first?
