    Hi there,

sorry for asking a question no, as I slacked off, but one of you posted a really great reference link and I forgot to bookmark it and now that really kills me. It was a reference link to an anatomy site, where you could see the muscles of the figures (so no skin, I think ^^°) and you could turn the figure with your cursor...anyone?

    Happy studying everyone!

Leo: Nice work! I really envy how much you're able to get done each week

I did get a LITTLE done this week. Not much but better than nothing.

    This week: Arms
I figure it's best to give Hands its own week next week.

Leo, great work, but remember to maintain the volume in the figure.. Number 2 sticks out the most though a few of the others do as well. If I paint without doing a drawing first I have the same problem. A very nice collection of studies and it makes me envious of the amount you were able to finish this week.

Bitjockey, those are solid studies, center left is very nice.

I have been extremely sick this week.. I thought I was kicking this cold but it came back with a vengeance.. I did manage to get this pencil study of a back done from a book that I just got ( Visualizing Muscles). Arms should be fun

Thanks Jockey and Mantis... And hey Mantis, get better quick bro! =D And now that you mention it... Whatta hell i was thinking on that number 2?! lol
Thanks for the heads up, i didn't notice the chest was so weird... Damn, i hate this!

Jockey great studies, girl! Really clean and beatiful... The female torsos are really cool, smooth...

Mantis, again, get better, man! You did some nice rendering there...

And believe guys, makes me envious the quality of your work! =)

Arms, here we go! Good week everyone and take care all!

EDIT: Hey Znno! Nice studies man, and high five mate, i still struggle with the machine haha...

Try to put more movement in the figure, they are kind stiff, i think... PS practice i think... Take care, man!

Leo, thanks.. this cold is dominating pretty much everything.. I wish it was just the sniffles or whatever but it's one of those that just shuts down your sinuses and plays hell on pretty much everything..

Znno, Gesture drawing (especially the faster poses) will loosen up your poses a little. I'm going to link a lot of resources that should help you as well as others in the group. I don't own any of this and I'm sure I'm not the first to post them.. but it is relevant to this group, so here goes:

Figure & Gesture Drawing Tool: link

I feel so productive this week! I managed to get a pageful of arms from Bridgman done today. I'm hoping to get some photo studies done tomorrow, but we'll have to see how that goes.

4tonmantis: Thanks for the links! I hadn't seen some of these before.

    Nice work, jockey!

The only one that looks kind funny... Skinny i think... I have the same problem when drawing back views...

I'm using Bridgman too, probably the best reference to get, the figures has such movement and you got that as well...

Nice work, girl! Have a great week!

Hey boys and girls! Hope everyone's ok!

BTW... Jockey, i mistyped the last message... I meant the second draw of the arm, from the back view... The rest are perfect! Just that one looked skinny near the shoulder... Sorry the misunderstanding =D

Here we go, i did some digital, and in the weekend got some in traditional... Mostly i've aim in blocking the arm and try to understand the muscles, after that i did some observation sketches... It was pretty cool work with arms, one of my favorite parts...

    Anyway, crits, mates!

Leo: I know which one you meant, sorry if that wasn't clear. Nice work! The Bridgman studies show definite improvement as they progress. I think you're taking the right approach, trying to understand what muscles are depicted in each Bridgman sketch. Don't forget to read the text that goes along each page; they're helpful in understanding the sketches as they tell you the location of each muscle and what its function is.

I think the pencil photo studies are better than the digital ones, but the right arm on the lower-most pencil drawing on the left (back view, hands linked behind head) looks a bit too long.

    Same feeling!
I felt the upper arm little too long, maybe something in the shoulder, looks funny, ou of place... And the elbow joint, i think does not fit quite right with the lower arm...

The digital work wasn't my best... I know could be better... Don't know what happened...

    Thanks, Jockey!

000: Feel free to jump right in!

As for me, I forgot my sketchbook at a friend's place, so I don't have anything done yet.
Since this week is a short week for Canadians and Americans, I think this is a good time to do another open-topic week so everyone can catch up or go over areas we've covered so far they want to spend more time on.

    Heeeeey guys!

First of all, Jockey and all you guys can count on me to keep this thread alive, i'll be posting here all weeks, sometimes few sketches due to work (like this week), but always posting something.

So here it is, couldn't too much this week, just a couple of Bridgman, two from life (one digital, another traditional) and one from life trying to use color (please crit on the color too, i really suck with colors lol)
Oh, the traditional one, i've tried not to keep the line straight, was just trying to let loose a little...

Anyway, bring the crits, brothers... And have a nice week everyone!

Yo bro Leo you have improved alot !! I really like how you did all those x-ray version of hand.... where do u get them? I also like how u paint the hand man... a little bit works on contour and correction of values and tone will make it even better.

Do you use default brush to paint that one? can i know how u control the opacity and flow to blend them.

After seeing that I did a really quick one about 15 minutes. Could u guys point out what I need to do to improve my painting skill? I did not consider to get the right form , I just want to do some quick painting.

    Thanks

Hey Z! What's up my man?

Thanks, bro... Hope to get even better soon, i stil struggle to make color look natural...

The first ones i got from Bridgman's book, "Complete Guide to Drawing from Life". I think jockey is using this too... To me, is the best to anatomy studies, great explanations and powerful draws...

I still hava issues to make colorful draws... The brush i use, i got from another CA member named Pixeltuner, really cool guy... Check his sketchbook:
    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=114967

And this is the set of brushes he gave me:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2431726/master_brush_set.abr

Well, about color i can say just what helps me, Jockey and Mantis can be more helpful. Try to block the general color first. For example, look to a piece and try to identify tone in it, like the skin in the photo you did, it has a yellow-ish tone all over, with differents tones and variations, red, orange, a bit of green in the palm...
To blend, after blocking out, i start with mid tones to blend all colors...

About the quick sketches, that's what i aim for too... I mean, i always say to my self "Quick, do impressionist style" .... Fast strokes, and live colors... But i never can't, always start to be academic and spent time in details... Nothing wrong, but pisses me off... lol

Anyway, hope could help a little...

Take care, Z! Nice week everyone!

Leo: Yep, I'm using Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life as well. Read the text before you study the drawings, it's a big help. Your Bridgman studies look great as per usual. The colour version is a bit off -- the base of the hand is too short and it's squeezing the pinky and thumb out of place.

znno: In photoshop, I use the default round brush set to 100%. The "Digital painting in PS#2" thread has a lot of good demos, especially on the first page: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=107217

FlakoFigZ: Good work on the fingers. You're losing your edges at the highlights, like on the thumb. Try darkening the background in those areas to make the edge stand out a bit more.

rebelionature: Welcome! You're off to a good start. Bridgman can be a bit tricky to make sense of sometimes, but don't forget to read the text that goes with it; It's a big help.

I did manage to get some hands done, finally, but I won't get a chance to scan them in until tomorrow. Until then, it's topic change day, soo...

This week: Hips and Thighs I figure it'll probably work better to split legs up over two weeks. If this goes well I'll do it like this again the next time arms come around.

Hips and thighs sound good. I'll probably do some on Wednesday night or Thursday night and post them up here. I'm really busy this week though. Great stuff posted so far!
