Angry approval of posts through moderators

    Hello you guys,

I have an issue that really annoys me.
When I post an answer to a thread oder in one of my own threads there appears a message saying that my post will be displayed as soon as it is approved by a moderator.
Well, this message appears totally at random.
I just wanted to post new stuff on my sketchbook and the same message showed up. Now The new pics surely are not visible in the sketchbook and somehow I'm sure they won't ever be.
What is this? Are the moderators of this site really checking hundreds of postings every hour if they are okay?
And why does this appear so random? Sometimes my post just appears without any problems.

I don't know myself, but I noticed some users talking about a post moderation feature in the Support forum http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=218738 They're specifically referring to posting threads, not posts, but I presume it's related.

It's related. It has to do with the spamguard on the forums. It catches a lot of bots but newer users will sometimes get hit in the process. When I see posts that are legit users, I approve their posts but it is also best to ask in the support forum as well.

CGSociety also has something like that in place too.

You have no idea how much spam this site gets. All the moderators do their best to delete it and approve threads when they're found. As we all have our preferred places, it can take a while and we can miss some - that's what the Support forum is for - the one below this one.

Look on the bright side. Yesterday 111 people joined, only 48 survived the first round. Today so far 81 joined and 28 survived. Post art, your art and it'll pass.

I'd still prefer a verified and non-verified member system. Google isn't indexing everything within 24 hours and even longer, which gives us mods to tackle most of the spam and save real members going through this every day. We're still getting the stuff where a spam member goes and shits everywhere and posts 34 posts that need to be deleted.

BTW could everyone check their profile and see if they've got a message from coolbaby or fatidan. They're both banned, but they've left a lot of visitor messages before moderation came in.

After several of my longish, useful critiques got sent into moderation limbo when I was new to posting, I noticed that all of my one – two line comments like "Amazing brushwork on that piece!" went through. I posted twenty of these short comments and then I could create my own sketchbook/post more useful stuff. (Make sure to leave out links and images before you get to twenty and it shouldn't be too hard to get through the filter).
Also, thanks moderators for keeping out the spam!

I think this is a major problem with this forum that I have not encountered in any other major forum before (even cgsociety). I believe that there is a tradeoff between getting in the way of real users vs spam (google has this same problem with email and their machine learning algorithms to categorize email as spam or nonspam, obviously it is much more harmful to mark something as spam that is not spam than visa versa). I believe even a captcha would be better than the current system. My 2 cent.s

At the end of 2010 we had a load of porn spammers posting pictures. The moderation came about because of that. All mods were deleting and banning everything in sight for about 2 months - it was exhausting and not very nice. We never want to see that again. Currently we are getting on average a 100 new members a day of which about 80 are spammers.

captcha wouldn't help a lot. A lot of the spammers make avatars and profile pictures, which means they are investing time in doing so. I'm getting slightly bored of the same choice of profile picture. There was one who didn't even bother getting rid of the copyright watermark - twat.

How much time it usually takes for the team to moderate the posts? i posted something in my sketchbook thread about 10h ago.. Also, if a member is cleared, would this happen again?
    Thx
