    Sketchbook of a Novice-*6/23/12*

    Hey everyone ,

People call me Dom, 20 y.o, living in Philly. I taught myself how to draw and never attended art school. Been lurking around this site for a while looking at everyone's sketchbooks and I thought its about time I give it a shot and make one (After seeing everyone's good work I've been too nervous to make one all this time -_-). From the time I started elementary school to my final days in high school I would draw my little manga doodles but after graduating i got a bamboo tablet, some anatomy books, and decided to take this seriously and now here we are.

Everything in this sketchbook will be 100% digital since i don't have a scanner or a camera and the program I will mainly be using is SAI (Photoshop is laggy o.o)
Btw, i have no experience in painting but I'll try to learn, Thought you should know.

Any advice to help me "level-up" will be appreciated.

    ENJOY!!!

Those shoulders need some work. Drawing arms upwards like that can be difficult -- there's a lot of musculature and overlapping/underlapping going on that, if not rendered properly or at all, can make the position look very off. At the moment, the arms just look like straight, muscle-less cylinders coming out of her shoulder joint. Maybe try the same pose with a reference to get a sense of what actual muscles are there and how they look?

Welcome to the forums Rom, you have some nice anatomical studies there. Bridgman's is a good source too. Stiff here and there but you're on target.

your muscle studies seem solid, women anatomy is a bit muscular. your line quality is good tho! cant wait to see more!

for the faces you may want to get some reference skull photos and practice on seeing the relationships of facial features to the skull!

Haven't been posting anything new because my tablet pen broke
The buttons got really loose and didn't work anymore and pen would act out on its own without me applying pressure or pressing any buttons.
Just recently I got some electrical tape and taped the buttons tight and it works fine now.
    Now I'm back

    Stuff drawn from imagination

Did some bridgeman studies of something i'm not good at..
    ..Hands...
I even used a different brush i never used for drawing to make it that much harder to do
I also drew my left hand from life but it came out a little funny.

Hey I would recommend drawing more from life, and doing more copies- it's great that you're drawing from imagination, but those cause so anatomy issues unless you have a very good understanding.
    Best of luck

Don't know why this happens but every time I draw on my tablet for long periods I tend to get pain from my fingers to my arm.
It drove me crazy to the point I had to stop drawing for a little while
Well...here's some stuff I drew in the past three days.
Didn't use any refs to draw these.
