Which art book should I start off with

I am an absolute and udder beginner. I've been browsing these forums for a couple months, but never manned up to make an account.

    I must admit something.
I love writing. I write novels and poetry and everything literature.
It is my passion. It is my life. But recently (in the past few months)
I've gained a strong affinity for art. I want to learn so bad more than anything.
But I also want to be a writer.
It was extremely hard for me to finally admit that Writing is my first passion
And I should allocate more time towards that. But that does not mean
I will not allocate a lot of time towards Art. I plan on studying art for ATLEAST an hour and a half or more a day.

So, while my main passion ISN'T art, I am as motivated and passionate as somebody whose main passion is art.

    I have

Drawing on the right side of the brain (But I only need it for the how to see exercise. So about half of the book is all I would read)

    and

    Keys to Drawing

Here is a sample I did a couple days ago, so you can get an idea of where I'm at (I've never taken anything art related in my life. I don't even know most of the vocabulary)

Fun with a Pencil by Loomis which is free is favorite on CA.org and CGtalk and it really is very good plus its free.

I would say dont get too hung up on where to start though (I did) as after the first few pages of work from your chosen book you are likely to jump to a differnt one, then back then to a different one again. No matter how structured I tried to be it always seems to work better when you are being fluid and going with the flow with gentle pushes towards what you might need to study.

So yeah first grab the loomis collection and do a few of his funny heads. I have just started again from scratch and its what I am doing as you go people will guide you.

oh and what eezacque said .. START A SKETCHBOOK!
