Hello everyone! Taking some huge steps in learning how to draw; currently, I’m going to Davenport University to learn to program. So, learning how to draw will be something I am doing completely on my own time. Why? It’s because I’ve always wanted to learn, plus, I’ve wanted to draw beautiful artwork for my video games. So, lately I have been studying on how to program, I also found an artist that I’ve wanted to drawing similar too. His online name is Alien1452; he is a Korean artist that has a pretty well fan-base on and outside the conceptArt community. His art is a large inspirational example of why I really want to become an artist/programmer.
I have a set of goals planned to help me with this. I will set them up via Bullet points; but, I need the community’s help. The equipment I have is: Illuststudio, Photoshop, Intuos 4(small), HP laptop (6GB), Dell Computer (5GB), sketchbook, pencils. Pretty essential things for me to get started; I also wanted to note that I really want to buy a Cintiq in the future when I have the funds to do so.
There are problems I’ve had for a while now that really discouraged me from starting. The first was the poses. A lot of professional artist are able to draw a really good pose to put their character in a fantastic style (with some research) I have been trying to search for a website that I can do some research on these poses for without the fear of violating their copyright laws. Another is studying the basic anatomy. The characters I will draw will be in a realistic anime form (noted similar to Alien145); but, I will still need to be able to draw a character out in realistic shape. I really need help with trying to gain that sense within my head. A major one I have faced is how I can paint, digitally, blending colors and capturing the lighting in the correct spots of a female/male body. This one has always been a problem for me and when it comes down to it, I’ve always stopped a drawing because the colors were off. Gesture drawing has been a big problem for me as well. When I try to do it, I always end up refining until the picture come out completely wrong. The final thing is that I have Attention deficit disorder (ADD). I have heard from a lot of People that have stated that this isn’t a real disorder and I find that untrue. It is really hard for me to focus without completely boring myself. I was diagnosed with it when I was young (20 at this time) and I am always searching for tips to focus.
Alright, so here is the list of goals I have set. A few of them are personal gain (getting certain things) but they are still goals none-the-less.
• Create a Video game
• Draw Dynamically
• Learn to animate
• Buy a cintiq
• Stay focused
• Create a comic book
• Learn to paint in both Photoshop and Illuststudio.
These are the main goals I have for right now. Any help with how I should start will be very much appreciated. To add I will start this sketchbook on January 4, 2012; I will also post this onto my personal blog (I will be re-activating that on the 4th as well), as well as the sketchbook forum. Since I’m in school for programming, I will try to draw every day; but I can only post every 2 days. So, a planner will need to be purchased to keep everything noted.
