Thumbs up The Hobbit - Full Trailer

Chances are you've since this already, but if not, then check this out.

I can't wait, very cool trailer. Looks like Peter Jackson has gone for a slightly darker version of The Hobbit, which makes it look all the better. Not to mention the fact that the quality of it will be amazing, since they recorded it at 48 frames per second, and in glorious HD.

There are some of the making-of videos on my YouTube channel here, and you can read up on the rest of the news at The Hobbit's blog, here.

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing more of Gandalf; Ian McKellen is one of my favourite actors, but they've also managed to make the Dwarves look pretty cool, especially Thorin. The question is whether they've managed to give them all distinctive characters, or whether they're all pretty much the same. This time next year it'll be released, can't wait.

Well in the book they're pretty much all the same.

I'm REALLY excited for this for this movie. I've been waiting a long time to see it.

I was pretty luke warm about LOTR. The ungodly length and pretentiousness was a serious turn off. I heard the Hobbit is a simple one off, so I might give this one a shot.

It's actually two films, and I'm expecting both of them to be rather long.

It could easily be stretched up to 5 movies if they include all the walking, singing and eating

making the 1 book into 2 films sounds to me like a bit of a money making ploy, more than an artistic venture.

but, as long as the film/story doesn't suffer, this is a money making ploy I would be comfortable supporting.

Why? It's allways annoying when books don't fit into the play time of a movie so they have to take out a lot of parts. I mean, they made Game of Thrones into a ten episode series and even then they didn't have room to fit everything in.

The Hobbit is just one book and not that long, but has enough events and things going on to fill the screentime

I don´t doubt they could cram it up in one go but if they want to make it as complete as possible, give background to the characters, the story and the places they go, climax the main momments and maintain a balanced pace trough it all , two movies doesn´t seem like such a bad idea or at least not one made entirely for the money.

If I heard correctly, Peter Jackson has integrated much of the goings on in Mirkwood with Gandalf and The Necromancer into the story, so it's not just what's in The Hobbit but also what was going on at the same time as The Hobbit but wasn't in the original narrative.

I couldn't help myself bit pick at the small inconsistancies in the trailer - like when the hobbits fall in the door, originally only five fell in but in the trailer it looks like the whole lot do. Small things like that but hopefully I should get out of that mindset before the movie comes.

Also, Thorin's beard is considerably longer.

Yeah I don't know why they designed Thorin with such a short beard. For Dwarves, beard length is a sign of status, and Thorin is the king, hence he should have the longest beard.

And just think what could have happened if Peter Jackson didn't slip back into director position the way he did..

If they're going down the Harry Potter road, then yes, it'd just be to make more money. Also, I believe that originally Peter Jackson was told that if he wanted to make LOTR, he would have to make it into just one movie, not three. He refused to do that, so just kept the rights to it until someone offered to fund the full three movies.

I've only recently seen the extended version of LOTR, which also sounds like a marketing ploy, but I think it would be better described as the full version. There's just so much in the books that they had to cut out of the original release, and even then the movies are like 3 hours long.

I like that guillermo del toro has credits front and center on the apple trailer page for the hobbit. I'd have loved to see his lone vision of middle earth, but at least it seems theyve used enough of his ideas to put his name up there.

It would be wonderful if they had all this pro talent going for them then they just made another campy musical. Catch them making a mess of Bilbo's kitchen at 2:05? "Chip the cups and crack the plates! That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!"
