April's Attempt to Not Be a Drawfail

Hello all, I'm April and I just made a profile here. I've heard about this site for a while, but it wasn't until recently that I decided to join. I've been on DeviantART for a number of years but it just isn't the site you go to if you want helpful critique. For the most part, its the place you want to go to for praise which I'm not looking to receive right now. Gotta say, I'm a bit intimidated by these forums! I've had the sketchbook forums open on my computer for a few days now, scared to add my stuff to it, haha.

I want to do a number of things with my art. I want to hopefully do some concept characters and book/cover illustrations. I have a lot of work I need to do. I know I need to work on my lighting, colour pallet, and drawing males. Anything that anyone can also point out would be amazing. I'm hesitant about sharing some of my stuff, but I am thankful for anyone who comments on it. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I don't have much sketches to show right now, but I promise I'll do more!

My most recent illustration... I'm still trying my hand at backgrounds, and reference image used for the girl. Had to try my own pallet for the nighttime, I feel like I failed xD

Trying to speed up my drawing process, and NOT draw in black and white and overlay colour.. Idea gotten from wysp.ws, "Close Your Eyes" theme and having to add cats to the pick, quick sketchup design before drawing. I'm trying to get back into just drawing with colour again. So this was about an hour and I have a lot of way to go before I'm satisfied with an hour long drawing. But, meh... Any critiques would be nice
