Topic: Karakuri ningyō Dog
Deadline: Sunday, November 20
Karakuri ningyō are traditional Japanese robot dolls that serve tea. Or little robot doggies will get the paper. However, you aren't allowed to get all sci-fi on me! Try to keep to hand made and traditional feel of the Japanese dolls. If you look at the dolls' faces, they mimic the styles of the painting of the time. Animals in oriental paintings too have their own categorical features: they tend to look a bit bug eyed for one thing. I suggest looking at a few Chinese and Japanese (Shisi) gaurdian/shrine dog sculptures and old paintings of dogs and cats.
You do not have to stay strictly with the traditional- use it as inspiration. I just don't want shiny chrome, minimalist, exposed ball and socket joints type things. You must make two images for this round: one which shows the dog as it would look as it is fulfilling its task- the other as it would look when its cover is taken off and its mechanics exposed. They mechanics don't have to be technically sound, just look like they should work.
