    Dave's Transformation

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=230069

    It starts today.

    The name's David.

Here is where his transformation begins. From now on, at least once a day, I'll upload something, be it personal work, or studies. I plan to launch David into a new life, where his talent is not wasted, but instead improved.

This is the first Sketchbook I've scanned. It wasn't a drawing-only sketchbook, I also took college notes on these pages.

    Comments are highly appreciated.

    Hello Dave

The coloring of the green guy looks good. I like it.

Some issues with anatomy. You tend to give your guys abnormally huge arms and back muscles (around the neck area).

    Here are some suggestions:

    1. The leg looks uncomfortable. You might want to rotate it a little. Raise the back muscle a bit so it doesnt look loike it's coming out from the waist area. Also, you want to watch out for the armpit area. Make the arm overlap the back muscle so they don't look merged.

    2. Raise the right lower leg so it won't collide with the left leg.

    3. The dude doesn't look like he can turn his neck. Drop the back muscle to give him some turning room.

Also, you should do some more big drawings. It's difficult to see the details of the smaller drawings.

@fishysmell thank you very much for those anatomy tips. I'm coursing an anatomy class in college and your tips come in very handy atm. Here are the drawings of the day:

Can any1 explain to me why is it that there's times when your replying posts won't be showed right away? I've tried to update this thread like three times now and all it says is that a moderator will allow my messages to be posted later on...4rth time I try to upload my drawings for feedback. Kinda weird and annoying.

    Hello again, Dave

For the Demon Guy with the Diablo-ish thorn-beard
    1. watch out for the muscle pair actions. When a muscle flexes, other "opposite" muscles must relax to accommodate the flexing muscle. For instance, when the bicep contracts, the triceps will have to give way so the the arm can move. This relationship means that when the biceps bulge, the triceps will have to flatten.
    2. The left leg should be coming at or going away from the viewer. I think it will help with the movement of the Demon Guy.
    3. The right leg should be doing a somewhat opposite thing of what the left leg is doing. I think this will help with the movement, again.
    4. As it is, the weapon looks kind of odd sticking straight out to the side of the page. It will look pretty sweet if you angled it toward or away from the view (I'm leaning towards "away from the view").

For the Dragon Dude with the Tail
    5. I would rotate the right arm a bit so the biceps are facing the viewer so it won't be such an awkward/uncomfortable pose.
    6. Again, remember the contraction/relaxation dynamics of muscles. You can't have two opposite muscle pairs simultaneously bulging at the same time.
    7. Too much crotch action. It's like he is trying to be the "alpha" dude in the room via crotch display. Try rotating it a bit to relieve some of that tension.
    8. Don't forget the obliques and butt muscles on the sides (separate them from the leg muscles).

Good job keeping with your schedule so far, and thanks for making some of the images bigger!

As I said before in one of my posts (at least I think I did) I have an anatomy class in college. We sometimes draw a model who poses for 15 minutes or so, and sometimes we draw from anatomy books. Here are a few of those drawings I did that I like.

These are some more anatomy studies and a couple of casual drawings. Unfortunately i won't be having class soon. There's a law in my country that seeks to privatize Public universities and we are on a full halt of activities. The students and teachers want to prevent this law from being reformed. I hope there wont be any riots or anything and I also hope that the semester wont be cancelled ... anyways, here are the drawings for u guys. Comments and suggestions are appreciated

This is a page of my sketchbook where i gather data that comes to mind in the process of making a character. I try to organize stuff such as colors, textures, elements that make the characters dress or personality. Later on I draw this character and make his side views and after I will make it's anatomy. This is all for my anatomy class assignment. Let's see how it ends up unfolding.

Definite jump in improvement in your most recent pieces, and lovely inking. That creature is horrendous in a very good way - think he needs some colour!

Indeed he does! I do have a question though, when you say inking, does that include using a regular black ink writing pen? or does inking go beyond, using paintbrushes and chinese ink etc..

I've been having a little bit of trouble scanning some of these... My scanner seems to have issues. You know. Being a little too small and all. relatively big drawings are too much for him to properly digest.

Today I give you some portraits, a couple of monsters and one or two heads from imagination. Portraits were real fun to make, ten minutes each in anatomy class. Not so much fun for the model though, face flexing is a tough thing to do, especially when ur doing it for a ten minute time period. C&C always welcome.

    Hey,

I really like your skull studies, seems like a very good way of figuring out the underlying shape of "unconventional" head shapes. May have to borrow that method myself ;P

Your very good at drawing different types of creatures, but still are able to keep solid human proportions. Nice work.

    @Mewball
Thanks! I'm still learning anatomy. I really like drawing the human figure and deform it into monsters and such. I do believe that having a very powerfull anatomy foundatino is really important.

    @otherscape
I'm really glad you like them! Fantasy is something I dwell into constantly and fondly.

Lately I've been studying Andrew loomis' "Drawing the Head and Hands" book and here are my results. I've done it several times and everytime I find something different which can be improved. It is sort of sequential, although each picture is a different piece of paper.

Also I've been checking some videos in ctrlpaint.com and it's an awesome source for people looking to improve their digital painting skills.

Couple more drawings I did after the head excersises, all from imagination. It's good to go first studies, then imagination drawings and then go back and see what you couldn't remember when drawing from imagination. Then go again

hey dude, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. you have a ton of awesome stuff in here already, love the stuff from imagination, and its good to see you are doing studies and working from life as well, because it will drastically improve your work from imagination! but i can see you have done a lot of sketching from imagination, thats really good, it means you will have no problem drawing or painting anything from imagination once you solidify your skills through observation and studies. so keep it up dude, keep working hard, and youll be killing it in no time!
