Hello everyone. Wanted to share my sketchbook, get critiques, hopefully meet some cool ass people who know what they're talking about. Been drawing for 12 years, off & on. Mostly off to you tell you the truth. I'm 27 & I want to actually get to a point to where I can make money doing this.

Did some 30 sec. gesturing over at pixelovely. Had some female anatomy sketchs as well, but I guess since I'm new here I can't really post much. Got some Loomis books recently, which I've read a bit of. Will be posting some of my other sketches so everyone can more or less see where I'm at artist wise. Some Loomis afterward.

Here's the female anatomy study. It's a mix of yesterday's & today's work. I do comic fanart so my male anatomy isn't too bad.....at least I don't think. Let me know what you think when I post my pre-Loomis, gesture, anatomy study stuff.

Wolverine - I finished a week ago.

Captain America vs. Hulk - was done 2 months ago.

X-Men - 6 months old, Gambits all sideways, I know.

Booster Gold - 3 months old. Sporting his energy drink, Dude cashes in.

Fantasy demon guy- My own OC, Blood Devil, Delios. 3 months old.

Butterfly - A friend's OC that I reworked in my own vision.

Gun - 12 year old drawing I did back in highschool, 9th grade. Original.

Hiya, love your sketches so far :]
Your anatomy looks good too! Thats something I'm working on atm ^^;
Only thing I can suggest is maybe to use a wider range of pencils in your pencil drawings, that way you can get more depth into your drawing through darker shading. I heard someone say once if you're going to shade make it black. Or at least some of it.

Interesting things here! I agree with Syra about the shading. Another thing you could try is varying your line weight a little more. Other than that, keep practising! =]

Thanks Syra. I have a Pro Art 18-Piece Sketch/Draw Pencil Set coming in a few days that I'm excited about. It'll have a range of pencils that I will be using for the first time ever.

Yeah I admit my shading is just at the beginner's level. Thanks for your input Lumari, different weight lines would improve my work. That's a great suggestion, didn't think about it til now.

I'll definately be practising. Going to get some drawing done later today, check back.

I've been waking up late as hell lately so I haven't been on time posting. Sketches are getting done though. More Gestures, & female face sketches. Did about 7 hours & 10 minutes drawing today. Putting in work.

ErikR you're absolutely right about environments. I haven't done many backgrounds. Soon as I read up on some more Loomis & perspective I'll be getting right on that. Hope to be posting some new work tomorrow morning. Got lazy this week.

Hey man,

If your not doing it already, I would read Andrew Loomis' "Heads and hands" and read the plate about proportion and planes because it will really help you out when your drawing.

Thanks Bowlsoup, I'll be doing that. So I guess I won't be doing daily sketches. With work being heavier than usual I'll be trying to do weekly sketches. Last week I managed to get some sketches drawn.

Got some fanart WIP's that I started before my anatomy studies. So if they feel off a bit, it's because they are. Andrew Loomis' Fun With A Pencil - head studies is where I'm at right now.

I copied 2 pages directly from Loomis as best I could. Guess which ones. 3 to 4 minute gestures. Still suck at females. Fanart WIPs lightly drawn. Second one is Mr. Freeze with no helmet. Flame suit on.

Hey, great stuff here! I love your caricature heads the most, they show a great understanding of the form and facial characteristics! Also keep up the gestures, they are definitely improving as you do them! Your faces are good too, you capture feelings well Try observing the way other artists do their lines, be it pencil or whatever, I feel like you pass over many times in small strokes, which is something a lot of people do when drawing, instead of making more fluid lines. Maybe you're drawing too much from your rist and fixing/thickening lines you aren't sure of? Try being more free or consice with them I can link you to a couple of sketchbooks that I think show this well if you'd like, I know I'm inspired by a ton of people on here who are great with that.
Also those hand sketches are super good!

You're right about me doing small strokes/not doing fluid lines Iristhevirus. Wow, I feel like you opened my eyes to alot of things that I've been doing wrong. Thanks for the kick in the ass. Sure I'd like you to link those sketchbooks.

I finished up these female gesture figures yesterday morning. Took from 5 to 10 minutes on each one. I've also started to sketch overhand. It was a HUGE help to my strokes, less cat scratches/static. Last one is of Batman with Killer Croc hanging over him.

First 2 are lightly drawn, will not do so next time.

hard work, your doing it! Word of advice, start using lines of action. This is a basic technique used by animators to give more energy and flow to their drawings. This is especially important for life drawings. Look up the 12 rules of animation on wikipedia, not all of the rules will apply to you if your not an animator but it will still apply alot to your drawings. Look up force dynamics, it's a great book.

I swear I was thinking when I first started here a few months ago, I would be sketching everyday.... What the HELL was I thinking? Haha, I finally got around to doing more sketches.

1. 1 minute gestures. They say these help you to get better.

2. Another 1 minute gestures.

3. MMA action gestures. It's going Down.

4. More MMA action gestures FTW!

5. Female eye study. This will certainly help me when drawing female characters.

6. Tested out my sketch pencil set. Did this Lion study in 10 mintues before heading to the Zoo.

7. Animals I would of seen at the Zoo (if their lazy ass's weren't asleep). Big Cats study. Lion took 15 minutes, the White Tiger took 40 minutes.

8. Went to the Dallas Zoo last Saturday. All the kick-ass animals were asleep & sh!t. Sketched up this Elephant water fountain. Took me about 10 minutes. People wouldn't GTFO of the way so I get it done faster.

9. Laundry Day. Washing those drawls.

Did some female nose studies earlier this week. Along with some heads straight from my imagination. Then sketched up some 3 minute gestures.
