A quick introduction:
My name is Laura, I've been seriously pursuing the study and practice of illustration for about two years.
I was intending to go to art school straight out of high school, but life intervened and instead I got a liberal arts degree in French and put down the pencil for a total of six years. I decided to resume making art after realizing how SANE and HAPPY it made me feel, as opposed to being a cog in a 9-5 corporate machine.
Subsequently I got a certificate in Natural Science Illustration from the University of Washington in Seattle. I was also selected as a Bartels Science Illustration Intern for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY (i.e. drawing birds n' stuff), and this summer I went to New York, NY to participate in the School of Visual Arts' summer residency program in Illustration and Visual Storytelling.
Ultimate goal: SVA's MFA in Illustration program. But that's a ways off...
Anyway! Here is some of my art. I'll keep posting older pieces as well as newer ones. Please, please, PLEASE constructively critique to your heart's content!
For this post I've attached three pieces I did this past spring for a group show in Seattle called "The Birds", curated by Bherd Studios, at the Twilight Artist Collective.
Grotesques: Marabou Stork/Cassowary/Dodo
