    My Sketchbook

I had this account awhile, I'm still kinda new to CA and I wanted to post some stuff that I've done in school and some on my spare time.

The first image are a series of thumbnails of composition exercises. I had to choose one blow it up, and create an imaginary landscape with it, with the help of references.

I'm still trying to figure how to post more than one image. Sorry about that.

EDIT: I might do another sketchbook entry regarding NSFW (life studies, figure drawings, since I couldn't edit the title, still new this forum)

    Constructive criticism is appreciated.

    Landscape

Here's the final of the landscape assignment, I had to take one the thumbnails, and blew it up and work on the composition. My instructor told me that I should add texture to the rocks and added more shadows.

Some old digital painting masterwork studies of Courbet's works (before I've taken any digital painting class). I kept relying on the blur tool and smudge tools a lot.

Again, I'm still learning. If anyone has some feedback or some tips, let me know. I still want to keep improving on my digital painting skills.

nice landscape, but is a bit too blurry dont you think? : ) same with portraits... bring the definition !

    Thank you.

Sorry for asking this, what do you mean by bring in the definition? Is the resolution size? (for some reason my images tend to get blown up o_o;, so I have to double check on that next time I submit)

Ooh, those are nice compositions. My favourite's the top right.

As for definition -- I'm guessing that Rem might have meant that your portraits seem pretty blurry and soft. Some harder lines and more details would improve this.

    @America200: Thank you very much!

@Umbravita: Ahh I see now, so I might have to experiment with the harder brushes. Thanks!

Here is some speed-painting studies I've done over the summer, here's one as an egg (at least I tried to make look egg-shaped). Sorry for the big image.

Something new, I'm currently taking a sculpture class (is a required course) here some photos of some "sketched" bust. I've been struggling with symmetry. The clay I'm using is Plasticine (non-NSP), smoothing it is really difficult.

Character design thumbnails, I'm going back and revisit this after receiving some feedback and taking notes from the crit post I've done WAAAAY back.

    Female protagonist:

    Male protagonist:

    Antagonist:

And now some dooding stuff I do for fun:

Some sketches trying to do the DAC's Shape Challenge, I might revisit this, sorry about the photo quality ><:

    Photoshop practice:

Some fanart that I might redo again.
It's a WIP tribute piece to Tomoko Kawakami, who died from cancer. I grew up watching Utena.

(I really need to fix Soi's arms, it's bugging me a lot, any crits are helpful)

A possible concept, still brainstorming this.

I need to see if I can find my hand sketches and post them here, I really need to back to drawing hands since that's one of my weak points along with drawing feet.

Thanks for passing by my SB! You've got some awesome stuff here
Only thing I could recommend is to try and stop using the soft brush/airbrush all together because your paintings look a bit blurry. You improved on the egg and rocks pics, but still both look a tad blurry. Just eliminate the brush completely and try to blend using only the hard brush.

    Keep it up!

@LuckyCharm: You're welcome and thanks for visiting mine!

As for the brush opacity, I agree, and I tend to chicken out on it, but I'll try to experiment with hard brushes and see what happens.

    Some more sculpture "sketches."

and a unfinished drawing, I might revisit this one as well, didn't like the pose since it was too stiff.

Fun stuff, I like the dress studies in 18, and wish it was a bigger picture.
Keep working on the fundimentals and you'll get where you want to - you've got some fun ideas in here.

I agree with this post, and did a little paint over to clarify. Right now your edges are a little ambiguous. If you take a few extra minuets to carve out the important edges it will boost your work a tonne really easily

Looking good! I like many of your character designs. I guess the only critique I have is to try and bring some more dynamism to your characters. Right now they seem a little dead. Other than that though everything is looking great. Look forward to seeing more!

I really like the different concepts when you had the black and white Alchemy images. Plus I adore your style with all the character concepts and your lovely girl in the dress.

Looking very nice toward the end The earlier images were huuuge, but didn't have much details to them to justify the hugeness. The thumbnails look great, although I'd like to see some of them a tiny bit bigger
