Wow a lot of people from around the world joining up! This is getting better and better, I hope the POD in Amsterdam will come in 2012, that way a lot more people from europe will be able to attend there, as it will be probably easier to reach than the oh-so-conservative America. :p

    0. WHOOOO ARE YOU!!!!

My name is Wade Barry, and I am 28 years old.

    1. Where are you from?

    Perth, Western Australia; Australia

    2. What are your TAD expectations, fears, and all the roller coaster of emotions of this journey???

I feel very enthusiastic and will be studying my arse off, so my expectations are great. My only fears are keeping up with my TAD fees, and not falling behind in classes, although I'm bringing a "go hard or go home" attitude and am confident I will complete my studies.

    3. Are you working right know? How do you think you can manage it?

Not working as I've just finished up another 2 and a half years full time in retail, which has finally (long time CA lurker) given me the opportunity to study with TAD. I am looking for random casual work as I finish up a fitness course, which once completed I hope to maintain the flexibility to work self-employed "full time" as a Personal Trainer and maintain my TAD studies.

    4. Are you planning to go to US for the 3 week workshops?

No, although I do hope to attend a workshop in the future.

    5. How the industry is moving in your country, do you think you can apply all that you're going to learn to the environment you are?

I'm not overly knowledgeable on the industry in Australia, other than it is developing and know we have some of the major companies and a few other notable studios, although aim to learn all I can. I'm positive this will help me improve my skills to gain employment with clients not just in Australia, but also around the world.

To add, I am inspired by art, music and film. My influences range over various mediums including comics (Alex Ross, Michael Turner, Jim Lee, Joe Madjeuria, Todd McFarlane), heavy metal album covers (Dan Seagrave, Par Oloffson, Mike Majewski, Tony Kehol, John Zig), tattoos (Paul Booth, Bob Tyrell, Tony Ranger), and even classic fine artists (Salvador Dali, Michelangelo).

Feel free to check out my SketchBook and I will endeavor to do the same. I'm a pretty friendly guy so feel free to add me on FaceBook, etc. I look forward to going through this unique learning experience with everyone to help us all become better artists.

Better late than never ha ha !!

I will become fully active in conceptart.org yes! Haha I even started my sketchbook Im so happy!

im so happy to read all of this, even if we are almost done on the first semester.

    0. Esther Cuan everyone yey you know me
    1. Mexico city! the love.
    2. Oh gosh each and one of my TAD expectations has been met. To be honest with you I've had ups and downs with my art. Sometimes I get so de-motivated by myself and then I go and work harder and keep going. It has been a roller coaster yes in deed. I started thinking about drawing and painting and now I have found I am PASSIONATE about entertainment 2D.. wow all those vehicles and creatures and characters!!

One thing, what a great faculty. Every single teacher is just amazing. They motivate me to go on. If I feel down, even if they don't know I do, they always make me smile and push my art education to the next level. I still have much to learn from them and believe me I will squeeeeze.
    3. Work... ah many complain about it but I.. I dream of it. I would love some work in order to pay for my stuff. It is not fair to make parents pay for everything, at least to afford my own supplies. So lets land that dream job by being a hard worker and doing more than what is expected. Come on Esther!!
    4. Yes! I will be planning to go there. I hope to see most of you there!
    5. Oh gosh its dead, dead and trying to breathe. The industry here is, well, ok nvm. I would move out of here, I know where I want to go and its not in Mexico city. Though I dream of the day I can contribute to it's flourishing.

Oh well everyone! Keep working hard, first semester is almost gone and wow.. I've learned so much already. Im going to start a new thread because I want to talk about what I've learned and what you guys have learned!

    Hey guys and girls!

What a fascinating bunch of people.

    0. WHOOOO ARE YOU!!!!

Hey, my name is Nathan Skreslet. Just turned 30 this year (yikes!) and trying to make a career change. I figure now is the time to do it, if it's ever going to happen.

    1. Where are you from?

That's a difficult question to answer. I was born in Richmond, Virginia and I currently live in Blacksburg, Virginia, but in between I've lived in several different US States and I also spent 8 years living abroad in Cairo, Egypt. I sometimes think of Egypt as home.

    2. What are your TAD expectations, fears, and all the roller coaster of emotions of this journey???

I hope that TAD will give me the extra, structured instruction that will pump my work up to an industry-standard level so I can do the pre-production/pre-visualization work for entertainment that really excites me. I'm most afraid of not being able to get as much out of it as I want to because I'll have to work to support myself while attending TAD, and the amount of debt I'm going to accrue. Anticipating 2+years of complete physical and mental exhaustion and somehow trying to maintain my creativity through it all. It helps to have people who will push you and keep you on track.

    3. Are you working right know? How do you think you can manage it?

For the past 7 years I've been working as a staff graphic designer for Virginia Tech University Relations (doing print design work, alumni mags etc.) while teaching myself the necessary skills to pursue the career path I want. There aren't many opportunities for this type of work or training on the East Coast so I've been scrounging what I can and getting involved in professional development wherever available. You can see some of my work on an independent game project here: http://rockstorm-games.net/dws/. So when I heard that TAD was offering a course in Entertainment Design and that they had a node in my State I was thrilled. I'm very excited to get started in August. It is a bit scary leaving the security of a full-time job (State-funded with excellent benefits) for the life of a penniless student again, though.

    4. Are you planning to go to US for the 3 week workshops?

Sure, though I'm a bit closer since I'm going to be attending the RVA POD. Will any of you guys be going to the 3-Week workshop in July? It would be great to meet up with some people I know, at least virtually.

    5. How the industry is moving in your country, do you think you can apply all that you're going to learn to the environment you are?

Well, I think that concept design is a discipline that will always be needed as long as imaginative entertainment products are produced. I always thought that in order to really make it in that industry that I would have to move to California, since that's where most of the work is, but in recent years there have been an increasing number of game companies springing up in the Northern Virginia, D.C. and Maryland area (i.e. Bethesda Softworks, Mythic Entertaimnet etc.). So it may not be as un-attainable as once it was. Of course it would be a dream to work for a company like Massive Black or a studio like Bungie or Ubisoft, but I'd need to convince my soon-to-be-wife to move. Again. Not an easy task.

You can see a little bit more of my work at my DeviantArt page.

Hi, I'm Amber and I'm attending TAD this fall as an Entertainment 2D major. I'm 25 and also a Communications Undergrad from Kaplan University Online.

I decided to go with TAD online because I live in Puerto Rico and can't move for some time. Let me tell you, the schools over here are lame. Very very veeerrry lame. The fact I can attend such a high quality class from where I am that isn't over 100k is good enough for me to apply.

I plan on studying with TAD side by side my current study with another online university for a degree. How am I gonna pay for it all? Heh heh...still working on that one, but I'm very motivated.

My biggest fears include paying tuition and materials (especially materials since I'll probably have to get them online or far away since there's o place nearby). I also would like to go to the Workshop and wondering if I can make that work too.

Another fear is since it's online, it'll be easier to procrastinate (well it's a small fear since I realize a normal school is just as easy to procrastinate as an online one unless you freaking study 24/7 and do all your assignments in class). Also, drawing is really fun, even when it's frustrating as hell, so I'm not too worried.

I currently have a part time job, and I also wonder if I can keep it while still attending school.

Once I graduate from both my schools (and my little brother is able to get around on his own), I plan on moving to someplace in the USA and looking for work for film concept art, or comic industry, or just freelancing both for art and writing.

The art industry here is pretty near non-existent so that's another obstacle I will have to take on. I plan on searching my ass off for any help I will need, but I think as long as I work hard enough on my own, I'll do alright.

Hi i am Shin. i am 31 years old and a business graduate with 8 years experience working for Pharma giants such as Sanofi Aventis and Diethelm Syber Keller Hegner. I am Malaysian and i will be attending TAD this fall. Didnt expect so many people from my age group but is definitely welcomed. I am currently attending the One Academy where all my classmates are half my age. It is a good school but when TAD called i just couldn't resist.

I am very excited about starting classes at TAD this fall and am motivated to do more work to be preparation for TAD. I am trying to attend the 3 week workshop if my Visa is approved in time. Thanks for this opportunity Jason Manley and TAD. The art industry in my country i would say is moving in the right with homegrown talent like Loh Kinsun, Tan Eng Huat, Billy Tan and Sonny Chia.

2D Entertainment Design Student...soon to be

My name is Hector Ruiz, I am 27 years old, and I live in Dallas, Texas.

I graduated from The University of Texas at Dallas with an MFA that did not prepare me for the real world so when I found out about TAD I just had to jump on that opportunity. When I was in school my fears were whether or not I would be prepared after graduating, but with TAD I don't think I would have to worry about that as much. The program sounds great and the people involved with the school are amazing.

I currently work two part-time jobs to pay the bills while my wonderful wife supports me with the rest while I attend TAD. I think it will be interesting working during the day time and really working during the night time. I can't wait to see the skill growth throughout the semesters.

I missed my first workshop since I was still in the process of applying, but I am hoping to go to to one of them as long as it is hosted in Austin...much closer to Dallas.

The industry here is not bad, considering I'm in a good place where there is more opportunity. This only drives me to do my best while at TAD so I can get a piece of that pie. Again...can't wait to start and I know I will have some hard working fun.
