Journey of 10,000 hrs.

This is my sketch book which I am making a log of all my hrs spend drawing. I just kinda estimated that I'm at 500 hrs so I go on from there.

Hours 500-504
Some work out of "Drawing on the right side of the brain". Plus some random doodle tattoos. The one in ink was inspired by Fresca (which is a soft drink for anybody who doesn't know).

More work from drawing from the right side of the brain, which i have "completed". I like how the larger girl facing forward and the native man turned out. I'm still having problems with the cheek and jaw lines... especially in the 3/4 views. Going to have to do some more skull, facial muscle studies.

Tried some Andrew Loomis today. Specifically "Creative Illustration". Came up with these very rough composition sketches (for practice). They are from life (maybe another factor on why are so... terrible. lol) This book is pretty hard to get into, going to require a lot more composition sketches to get anywhere. Probably need to slow down on the reading and do more just drawing...

Hour 514
Started to do some work from "Creative Illustrations" again. (resulted in triangle thing) Failed miserable and switched to "Figure drawing for all its worth". Drew the typical body proportions.

Sincere good luck in what you're about to undertake. Hope you can withstand all the hard times to come.

This may be an unpopular thing to say, but I wish people would forget about Betty Edwards' book as a tool for learning how to draw. It would be different if I could find a single successful, professional artist praising her method as the answer for people trying to learn to draw. Blind contour drawings, frankly, are a tremendous waste of time. Anything that encourages people's conscious minds to be disengaged from what they're doing on the paper or canvas is a terrible approach, IMO.

Anyhow enough of that. Good luck again, and I'll just throw in a suggestion to remember to learn the basics first. Master them, and you'll have the tools to move on. (Anatomy is not a basic; it's an advanced topic, as is color)

10,000 hours isnt that like 3 days :p Just joking, I think its a grea idea. I wish I had more time to dedicate to my artwork. Id love to see how you progress.

MassDet- I wish it was only 3 days, then i could be an expert already... but yeah its like 417 days (if you could draw 24 hrs a day).

Hi, I don't know if I'm from an old school method but I believe you should draw some objects first, deal with perspective, straight lines, proportion, the 3D planes after mastering these you move to figure drawing and portraiture. As someone said here anatomy is an advanced issue. Why don't you set up some still lifes to draw them from life? I believe that you'd learn much more than copying the drawings from these books at this moment.
