Welcome all to my sketchpad! I am very much dedicated to Art and Conceptual Design and have much yet to learn. I am currently looking for a private online mentor to help me learn basic skills and tell me what I need to improve. I WELCOME ALL critique, but please, no putdowns. Let's keep this a happy place.

Sure. If you can, buy yourself a nice scanner, they run up about $40 on average and should give you decent results. A scanner/printer duo would be ideal.

Also, your left (his right) deltoid feels detached from the main body. The ends of the Pectoralis major join up to underneath the deltoid, very close to the Bicep.

The arm on the right (his left arm) is a better example of this. I suggest Buying Bridgman's Complete Guide To Drawing From Life to learn to fix any anatomy issues you may come across if you haven't already.

My school library has one ill try to use to upload it. I think the reason his right arm feels detached is due to the quality. But ill definatly research anatomy. Thanks!

Yes, what Damascus said is true and really good advice too, you need to work more on anatomy, and study from bridgman's book.
It's a very popular anatomy book so you'll probably find it in your local public library as well!

I'll admit I don't play video games that much but I like the picture. Although some details are a bit smudged so you might want to watch out for that. Great job though

Its the shading. It was the front page of my sketchbook and rubbed against the cover page. Smeared the shading all over. :/ But otherwise now im trying to study anatomy.


This is something i made with an art program called ArtRage. Its the free versions but im just practicing until i can buy photoshop or something.
Not finished yet. 45 mins.

Update on the apple. I think i forgot to mention but this is 2 things for me. Its a practice with drawing on the computer (done with a mouse) and also a light source drawing.

3rd update of apple. Im done with this. I learned something out of it, but nothing too valuable. Any crit would be cool. Gonna start a new one and study anatomy a bit more.

Hows it going? OK, looking good so far, you cant beat a bit of reference study.
I find a good thing to do at the end of a piece of work is try different crops, which allow you to force the viewer to focus on different stuff.
And also, try messing about with all the diferent functions in the Image > Adjustments menu in photoshop (go get it now, elements costs very little), its always worth seeing what happens if you push the contrast or drop the saturation or whatever, and there are lots of other incredibly handy things in there. Replace colour and channel mixer are really clever for example.

I just wanted to say that I have been listening to alot of Art Institute of Chicago Podcast lectures (free of course) and highly recommend listening to them. I have gained something valuable from these and they are nice to listen to while drawing. Post more studies later today.

Hi there,

2 main comments:
- I think you need to boost your sense of observation. You gotta trust your eyes more.
- Your lines are too 'stiff'

There is one exercise I can think of to work on both issues. Take a fairly simple reference to start with well defined lines, I have a book here that suggests for example sitting on the couch and draw your shoes or so. When you do that, you should not look at your paper while you draw. You draw a couple of lines while keeping your eyes on the reference and keeping the pencil on the paper. Then you look at the result and compare with the reference. Then maybe rectify your line with maybe one more line (don't over-correct) and keep going. In that exercise, you should spend 90% of the time with your eyes looking at the reference and nowhere else. The main idea is to force your eyes on the reference, and avoids your brain to interpret it too much. That will also help improve your lines a bit I think.

Just a quick update, a copy i did for my study group. This is a copy of Study of Hands By Albrecht Durer. I tried to capture the shading of this drawing above all. First image is the Original drawing, second is mine.

Something that'd be nice to do also as you study is to critic some of your own work. Try to write down a couple of statements about what you think of your stuff every two drawings or so. I'd like to know what you think of your last post for instance .

Edit: Reading you posts again, I realize you are already doing that. I still want a few words on your last post though :p.

BOOM! I'm back guys I realize that this summer I took a long break from this. I did some drawing over the summer, but I really sat myself down recently and told myself that I needed to get it in gear if I am going to make art my career. So i am enrolled in my school in 2 art classes this semester, as well as an advanced class next semester. I will post a few things I have been working on, as well as things I do in school and such. But I will try to get back to posting here, I could use all the help I can get.

This was is a WIP for my Introduction to Art class. The assignment was a choose your own drawing. So I chose to draw this. It's a fallen angel. The lettering in the bottom says " To fall from heaven " signifying that he was an angel, but turned against God himself, so he was cast from Heaven.


This next one is something I have been playing around with for a long ass time. It's just a painting of an apple, done in a program called ArtRage. It is what it is, not sure if I will get around to finishing it or not.
Will be doing studies today, post later.

Two studies done today, am not liking the head one at all. I will for sure be practicing that. Also, if I forgot to mention, both of these of from loomis books. " Drawing the Human Figure" and " How to draw Heads and Hands " i think they are called. But yeah, more to come!

No update today, got my studies done too late in the evening and have no time to access my household scanner. So, tomarrow, i will be doing more studies during school and posting them all tomarrow when I get home. I haven't forgotten to do them, I just waited too long
