When I first saw that last one on DA, I thought it was a photograph. I thought that till I saw the fullsize. Just how long do you have to practice in order to get to that level (and how many hours per day)?

Boriol Best would be to draw just as much as you can on everyday =). THAT would be really the best and you would improve very fast then.
But with just some minutes or one hour a day you probably can pull of a lot too.
The most importand thing is not really how much time you spend on it (sure more is better), but that you do it constant, so like everyday. Even if it is just a little sketch.
Overall if you invest much till average time for drawing you can improve greatly over 1-2 years. And if you spend everyday some minutes or a hour you can see a really huge improvement over 2-4 years. =) If you study other older sketchbooks here and timetable Meme from artists, you can see that between 2-4 Years everybody can pull of major improvement (at least that's what I hope for hahaha). So keep on drawing!

    Have fun!

    hello,

try to ease off on the manga style and try looking at other influences. manga/anime is a very generic and overly popular trend. you'll be better off finding something new and.. a richer source to mine.

Catish Mmmh you think so? I will not easy off on it ^^, I love it, but I will still do other styles too, no reason to cut off anything right =).
Who cares if it is overly populare, for me that is a pretty good feature. There is no richer source when there is something excluded, then it's just one part less from the whole. Just my 2 cent.

Nice work dude! I actually liked this one a lot more than your "finished" piece. The finished one looks oversaturated, you just need to put a little more light on the girl's face to make it perfect. Good stuff, keep it up!

Just looked through your sketchbook. It's an interesting approach to learning drawing; sort of a DA approach, maybe.

If it were me, I would feel a bit stifled like that... hemmed in by one particular style (manga/anime). It would make me feel like I was missing huge chunks of understanding.

I do think you come up with good studies many times (the projected animals in 3D is a good start)... that leads to better understanding for the cartoons.

It all depends on where you want to go; you can play it safe and keep dozens of fans from DA--drawing decent but not spectacular anime; or you can go for it, push your boundaries, and really thoroughly learn how to draw so that you won't have any boundaries on your abilities.

If you want to do the second of those, I would suggest pushing yourself a bit more to learn different techniques... learning how to incur depth in your work with contrast, for instance.

Good luck and keep having fun.

@Whyatt Thrash Thanks, Yeah there is quit a lot what can be improved on this. Need really to learn how to focus better through value.

@p sage First, good to see you are back! Haha, I never thought there is a DA approach to learn drawing XD, you should give me a tutorial for it =).
Yeah I try learning probably from the save zone, that's true. Staying on what I can and try to add new knowledge and technique onto it. I know it's a slow way of learning not so fast as running right into new ground. This would bring much faster experience but somehow I can't find me doing it this way.
It's like with the latest studies of human for portraits. That is a mix of my attemt on learning to draw with the standart soft round brush only (so I only use this brush for it and try to see what I can actually squeese out with it and how to improve with it too), and of my portrait exercise, but I included what I does with the animals, and changing the humans more and more now from how they look. Even the colorations I took from the animal studies. Including now bit more color study and background.

And sure I want dozent of fans in DA XD. I read here (I love CA, so much knowledge) a interesting thread about earning money with art. There are a lot of good artist who actually don't earn a cent with it, cause they don't know how to sell themself. And money is something everybody can need. DA is a good platform for a mediocre artist like me to earn bit of money till I am good enough for bigger stuff to do and you know how important money can be to even produce art (reading your latest posts on your thread).

I will choose nothing, but will do anything to improve, still drawing crappy anime stuff cause I want to improve on it and pushing myself for other styles too and techniques, critique allways welcome! Tell me what I should do too become better and you will see I will do it, but I will never do something not!

Yea different techniques are definitly worth much more time of investment and for depth that's something I want to figure out hardly too. My paintings are just meh~ on contrast and focus. Staying to much on the middle grey range, so it looks all washed out. It pain's myself a lot and hopefull I can find a way to overcoming it.

Really thanks for your time you took in my sketchbook =), and I hope to see more from you when you have time for drawing too.

    --
Looking back a bit, seeing was happened and what I am doing now, and what will come.
Goals I acomplished since the start of the sketchbook.

-loosing fear of painting. It was a big mental shit. Probably most of you can't imagin it, but I feeled so unconfortable on it, like running away, or vomit, just before I even did the first stroke! Just like my fear for colors, still have this on a bit and need to overcome this. Drawing is not allways skills, or knowledge, but mental too. So that's the biggest goal reached so far for me.

-3/1000 color, composition, construction, perspective, speed, realism, reached. I was generous with 3 points for it haha. So much more to learn till I die someday :p

So here some little composition sketches of the igloo witch doc with reindeer hat I had in mind.

    Have fun

Mmh Ok thought more about the depth with contrast and it's really such a big part I need to improve, so I will try hard to get it into what I sketch too~
Mmmh pushed value and changed stuff here and there. Will change the hat too, it need to look more like a hat.

I like the girl with the penguin hat, somehow you've made white light coming directly from the viewer look good. The girl pops out nicely but I think the staff could use a highlight. Also great brushing and edge control on this one. Keep them coming!

@smuli Thank you, yeah the staff could really need more love, I will do it. =)

@Ludic Thanks, you are one of the few who like it haha XD, not many do.

Changed a bit more here and there, worked out the design for the hat too and like with the clothes on the prinny girl, combined hat with clothes. Raised the value different more and it is now on 20% white and 90% black, but it's still to random. Thought on doing hair out of the nose from the reindeer hahaha. Looked funny but not very usefull.

@Lang Oulk Thanks, don't forget you are one of my targets.

@DonnieStephens Oh it's quit easy. The biggest rescources for references you find right in front of your eyes. That's what the most people here in CA recommend too. You can find there pretty anything you like, lot of humans, cars, animals, and any other stuff for free! Doing own photos helps a lot too. And then photos from people you know. For training in general everything should be fine, as long you say from where you got it. Here are some interesting Links you should look at

titts or gtfo!! I don't agree with the guy that said you shouldn't do anime cause it's "generic" .. hey, you enjoy painting it, I enjoy watching it, it's win-win! (more tits plz )

And I know that you as a creative person look to many sources, it's not like you're completely locked into animu$h stuffz and don't have the ability to take a more realistic direction. Depending on your goals, I think you know exactly what you're doing. Keep working on your stuff man..

    p.s

What are your goals? become super awesome at drawing sexy manga/anime ladies?
