Damascus thats amazing, you recognised it straight off! And thanks! Im afraid Ive never been, but Ive always wanted to so thats what I googled right after Id unwrapped the wacom! My control of it is still very rough, but it seems to get a little easier each time..

Yeah, wacoms come with practice, like everything else. If you can get good at using a Wacom, there's no point getting a Cintiq really.

I hear good things about Colorado's mountain ski areas, though personally I admire the Northern end of the Rockies more based on what I've seen, particularly northern Canada and Alaska, and to some extent, the mountains behind Seattle.

Alaska just looks surreal though, considering you can see a five thousand Metre peak from Sea level.

And sure, go right ahead! I'm doing studies from them myself =)

Thanks! Re reference tagging, Ill get on it. Mostly Im just drawing people and things around me; my sister, my exgirlfriend, my cousins dog, but google image search provides lots of landscapes.

Ive been all through the rockies and the sierra nevada, and through the andies in ecuador. Ecuador had a wide range of landscapes, but some of the most striking were the giant glens, like scotland scaled up 2 times. Epic

Speaking of huge things, Im a big fan of thunderclouds; you can easily superimpose a stupendous 30km high building over one to get a feel for what truly big engineering would be like.

Yep I have a Finally Finished thread with a lot of the sci fi stuff in, but it seemed wrong to keep adding junk and chitchat to that. Theres a link in my sig. People dont like to crit stuff to hard in the FF section, whereas here its a lot more brass tacks. I love it when people do paintovers and would welcome that kind of advice! heres all my free time stuff from the past few weeks. Ill keep adding as I go.
Do you know if its possible to change the position of images once theyve been uploaded, theyre all mixed together at the moment in no order..

more recent drawings, for a friend and her business partner, and my sister. They requested it was "zany and kooky," ouch. My friend Lucy looks a bit like Captain Planet in my version unfortunately but a nice way to spend an afternoon. Its striking how even a tiny change to the shapes or tones round the eyes and mouth can totally change the expression. our mental map of those areas of skin and muscle is clearly very nuanced, we must devote a lot of brain time and volume to reading those cues. my ability to recreate the expresion is less nuanced. the wacom seems very freeing tho; you can have a go at anything very quickly. its like learning a new playstaton game, training the muscles in your hand to draw what to see. i hope practice will pay off

He he youre not wrong! Apart from very occaisional attempt with a mouse Ive never really tried drawing humans before 2011.. I tend to just do machines and architecture at work and sci fi stuff for fun. It was interesting putting the Loomis lesson Id just been working through to change the angle of the head. hopefully by 2012 the people drawings wont be so messy and ill proportioned..

I recently found the work of Vyle and Bumsky, and was totally blown away. By the originality and compisition and understanding o light, as well as a feel for the potential for future tech. Diamondoid as a structural material/hypercomputer type stuff, the spiritual successor to Sir John Burky and Lord Syd Mead. Just amazing. Id love to get good enough to put my own slant on that kind of design.

Im finding the wacom dead handy doing day to dayl work. As the plans change repeatedly doing these ultraquick sketches seems to save a lot of time frigging around in CAD.
plus its actually fun not a drag. sweet!

Drawing on scrap paper seems to help concentration for some reason. Its been a long time since I drew things around me from life, childhood pretty much. It feels good to get back into it. Soothing and fun to not care about the result, just practicing. mmmm

how are you finding the going- feeling like youre progressing? from looking at lots of sketchbooks its very enthusing to see that although the rate of change may vary, its impossible to practice and get worse...

thank you too. i know jack about drawing from life, but to get that effect, the trick is literally not give a shit what it looks like and just treat it like fun practice. It doesnt matter, its just a scribble on a bit of scrap paper. No one cares. That attitude makes me a lot less precious and lot freer to try things out.

more.. ok here is something, might be interesting, that i just found the sketches for...
a while ago a development i was doing needed another villa for the bottom of its range to fill up space in a brochure, till something more concrete was made by the architects.
here are the simple ideas i came up with and some cad renders to illustrate. the emphasis was very compact, private, but to feel luxurious, and do it quick.
i admit i had no idea what i was doing and it didnt really come out like modern fresh design at all, but they seem to like it fine.
scarily theyre talking of actually building it: im glad i didnt sign the images so if it falls over im not culpable...
