herro there, im a 17 year old art and design student who needs a little help with getting started with digital painting, im hoping to become a illustrator/conceptual artist but im having difficulty grasping all the funky little techniques and stuff that alot of concept artists use.
Ive bought myself a wacom bamboo graphics tablet and im enjoying the process of learning how it works and what i can do with it. Anyways i want to be able to create a sketchbook that i can look back to and clearly see some sort of improvement/progression. This site is really unlike any others i've seen, other sites like deviantart dont offer too much help as far as criticism goes so im pretty excited about seeing what other have to say about my sketchbook.
I'll put a few pieces up tomorrow, its late and i have no idea what im doing lol, im incredibly new to forums so it may take some time for me to figure out how everything works!

a few shitty random scribbles i did before college, took me 3 minutes, tried to get some anatomy practise in there, ill do a few more in-depth studies later

had the sudden urge to paint a bald gypsy girl...aaaand this was the result lol. Its a nice bit of front view face painting practise i guess , gonna try and squeeze in a few more faces before i go to work.

1 and a half hrs-ish i might work into her a little bit more, her face needs some more definition

need alot of rendering practise, im going to be doing a few hours of live drawing next week in college, that should help anyway here's an incredibly shitty painting of a wh*re or something.. (wh*re is censored for some reason lol ) and yea i have no idea how to do hair, this is the first portrait ive done so all in good time.
got a long way to go


looked at a few skulls and realised that i've got the shape of the face entirely wrong i feel so retarded lol, 5 min update of the woman and im definitely going to be studying face structure next, kinda excited

nice work! I did notice that first image has some background perspective problems. I would like to see an enviro without characters, it's good to practice all aspects

my first proper environment, took me just over 30 mins and im very dissapointed with it tbh... gonna keep working at it though

after the horrific fail of an environment i produced earlier, i thought i'd give it another try, environment no2! lol
getting the hang of using different brushes for different effects, good fun! this one took a little less than an hour

was going through some of jamas's stuff yesterday and got really inspired by it! so i decided to have a go at painting something in the same sorta style and i love how fun it is.

Dude your progressing loads man, try implimenting all the techniques you have learnt so far into a nice solid peice, and then from that you can see where you faults are and work on those more aswell as practising the tehcniques you have now, that ship is looking reallllly sexy man liking it keep up the sick work!

I'm really liking your texture exploration here. They're looking really good, and inspiring me to quit clinging to my HB pencil and do the work I know I should be doing in Painter. Thanks for that.

was out visiting family today so i managed to find some scrap paper and did an inredibly quick set of scribbles- less than 10 mins, ill post a real update tomorrow!

was reading a national geographic and the environments really inspired me so im warming up with an environment!, learnt a few new tricks with the levels etc, gonna experiment a little more with this later on!

been incredibly busy lately working and revising for my driving theory test i passed! )
tried and failed at doing a little more anatomy practise- i call him "fail head"
back in the routine of daily updates now anyway. Dunno what to think of the rendering
