Wasted the day away reading, time for some serious studies.

I like your concepts and your forms are looking good. Will be keeping an eye for your updates.
it's not the end that matters but the journey
ilmenhin, hey thanks!
Damn, I totally got lost in The Vampire Lestat, which is an awesome book, but I haven't done ANY studies the last two days, so I finally got around to putting it down and started to do some.

Thanks for commenting on my SB
This is an awesome new start! I like the dedication. If you are going to hatch the figures like that you should not just make the strokes go in one direction -- they should either go across the form or along it. If you go along it the forms tend to look slimmer and slenderer, for example you would use it on a young girl's arms. Going across the form makes the form more dimensional, powerful, thicker -- you would use it for a barbarian's brow ridge or something for instance. But don't just wash the lines in one direction, it will flatten the picture a ton.
Another technical reason to not go in one direction only is that when you only go in one direction only part of the paper's tooth catches the graphite and it results in that unfinished, grainy look where you can still see the white/tooth of the paper through the shaded portions of the drawing. If you want to do washes instead of directional hatching as I described above, you should go in different directions to completely fill in the tooth of the paper.
You can try crosshatching too instead of just varying the pressure of your hatching.

Medelo, wow man, thanks for the time first of all! yeah i know what you mean, it's become a bad habit :/...im def going to work on that, i hope it shows in this post!
krysjez, thanks for stopping by! yeah..iv tried crosshatching and it's really not my thing, thanks for the input though!
Self portraits, some random anatomy, some Bouguereau studies (my scanner sucks and that page looks like SHIT even after trying to re-scan it..) iv never done studies like this before and I find it really enthralling!

Just a little more of what I did earlier today, ended up reading again, which is fine since I really took my time on these studies, I think maybe 4 hours on the batch, but I feel like I learned a ton! Here I come Lestat..

Excellent updates. I really like the way you handle your shading, very clean and crisp and all the values look on point! Reveal thy secrets
Keep it up!
cgaddict, It's great to see you here! Thank you very much, haha I just take my time, it really helps to nail in the information you learn from doing the study! (a delicate touch also helps
). Hope to see you again!
Here is what I have to show before some sleep, a quick self portrait (maybe 20 minutes?) and just a WIP of a Stag Beetle. I had more, but threw them away in frustration

Here are some tea induced drawings I have done thus far. Just some random anatomy to warm the hands, then finished the beetle, and then, I forget how exactly Skeletor popped into my head, so i did my take on him, kind of rushed it in the end, but i just wanted to see how my anatomy was from imagination was!

I like the underwear in the second drawing on here, for some reason it just strikes me as funny. Pretty good anatomy in general, as far as I can tell. Nice Skeletor-ish dude at the bottom there too
Oh right, that is Skeletor lol
Nice updates, really admire your shading technique as always, very unique.
WinterFortune, haha thanks
cgaddict, thanks for taking a break
So, this update is going to be crappy, and I apologize, I haven't slept in 48 hours, and it's not insomnia, it's just forced so I am very out of it. But now I am off for some rest!
My first still life! Then some random anatomy, I really want to do some ACTUAL life drawings :c, but hopefully when I start school in January, they will have something. Last one I used no ref, so the lines are a little shaky, and there are a few things off, but Ill be sure to fix them!

Ah! Studies- studies everywhere!
One thing I've noticed is you're certainly showing a new lease of life in your drawings. You're paying more attention with your rendering and doing all sorts of studies, inspiring new start so hope you keep up the progress!![]()
-Naidy, thank you. yes, i'm definitely going down a new path with my art.
-LtPlissken, hahaha! yes man, thank you very much!
Sorry I haven't been around, been busy trying to get all my school stuff straight, but that's all over with and I can go back to drawing!
I really messed up the second image :/ and idk if i'll finish the bug lady, I liked where the idea was going, but i don't like the result, I might fix some though, let me know if I should and I will

I find them dark edges really interesting. Like the shading on the beatle lady's head too.
Keep up the good work!![]()
looking really good! you're using a good range of tones in your rendering and proportions are looking mostly great. more more more!!
-Naidy, thank you! yeah, it helps me understand form.
-Raffix, hey thanks man!
Sorry for the lack of updates, I spilled some soda all over my stuff, so it all got ruined. But here is what I have for now..

Great sketch book. I love your rendering technique.
I really like all the studies you're doing, and especially the self portraits. I need to get off my lazy arse and start doing some of those.
It may be a stylistic choice, and it certainly does look neat, but the dark line you put around, or on one side of your drawins often makes them look like a cardboard cutout, and flattens all the work you've done to make it nice and rendered 3 dimensionally. The still life of mug and bananas you did is a particularly strong example of this, as it looks to me like a drawing of a piture of a mug set in front of some bananas. I'm not sure if that's the look you're going for or if you're just trying to diffrentiate between objects, but it's something to be aware of.
Keep the pencil burning!

-TacoMeat, thanks!
-LtPlissken, Careful Mr.Burton...but seriously, i know, i suck. and it better be Mad Max Mel Gibson, not the "you should just smile and blow me" one..
-tulokyn, hey, thanks, yeah, i do it for the sake of helping myself nail down the form
I KNOW, I SUCK, but I got into college, and I still have health insurance/food stamps!

Mel Gibson will surprise you with his new style and appearance.
Your imagination is running wild, I can see on these drawings,
but your drawings are too flat, you are not thinking in perspective
and in 3D, they are too stiff, your forms ain't right, and you lack
of anatomy knowledge.
hahaha, that was a harsh crit session, but that is what the others
doing to me in my book, so I got to get it out on someone.
Just jokin.
Anyway,
-the knife is ready
-Mel Gibson is ready
you just keep drawing and updating.
Hey there, great start of a (new) sketchbook!
The sketches look nice, rendering is definitely a strong side of your skills.
I would say that you should try to study the anatomy laying underneath that rendering a bit more. Since sometimes the anatomy is a bit off, or a bit stiff.
Can't wait to see those studies, and i would like to see some colour as well!
I'll be back for more ,keep it up!
very cool live drawing studies. I like the beetles. Very good pencil shading. The last batch of monstrous characters look good too. I´ll be watching

Great work as always. Nice to see your having a little fun with your last update.
'Ello again. Looks like you're imaginitive side's sneeked out again- and I like it.
What I want to see is that really interesting way of shading you've been doing in the study being utilized in your imaginitive works.
I know you can do it, so come on lad! Keep on pushing the boundaries and blow us all away!
