Ok...First off, I'm gonna change the title of this thing to Sundance's Chatbook instead of Sketchbook...

Click on your private messages...on the left hand side bar, you will find a link for "edit signiture"...click on that and make the magic happen.

A few choice comments on painting skin tones... avoid beige
    avoid brown
    avoid pink

in oil paints I tend to work the surface glow in warm colors and the shadows in cools but thats just me. you can work either way... overlay trans parent layers. shadows in purple or green or anything other than brown. if everything is values of brown the skin color tends to go flat.

    skin is difficult

btw- I think the trick is every time YOU, the sketch book proprieter, posts on your sketch book thread you should include images

and everytime we the recipients of the sketck book thread say anything we try to be helpful

maybe we won't get crap for chatting...

    love you

Hello. I voted for your picture althought I like your opponent's image for the fine lines. But you made me smile and I like the idea. So humour and how you painted main characters and those wooden logs sticking out of water won my vote.
There are some things I would change though. The trees in front view for example. They looked like done in the last moments. I think you wanted to give the rough look on purpose, but rough look very often is product of deep thinking and a lot of trying and changing. I would make trees look more flexible and smoother. I would draw the texture on the bark more thoughtfully.
The other thing you have everything with the same clear outlines on the BG and in FG. I realised it is sort of vector drawing, partly, but at least you need to manipulate the illusion of distance by varying thickness of lines And colors becoming less opague and cooler the farther they are from viewer, in my opinion..
I would add some indication of texture on the river house wall too, like you did with water around the logs. It will be in the same style, which is a good thing, INHO.

Trees standing on the ground in grass, I would do the grass around them fuller and not that schematic. I would paint above the trees roots, not just clue image of the trees above like you did. Now they don't look connected at all.
And i would use more details to make the viewer look longer at my artwork, more shades, probably and more textures.

Thanks for the input Sve. I will be attacking both of these pieces since I have received some wonderful feedback from a lot of different sources.

I decided that I'd throw this up here since it is a "sketchbook"...I'm finishing out a deck of playing cards that contain instructional information for playing soccer. This is the beginings of one is for a kickoff...about 5 minutes of sketching, deleting, sketching, deleting, sketching...

I've missed the I-man...I really want his feedback on the vectorish 3CH.

The fins bugged me too...they kinda float. Both trees are too thick on the linework, is that what you were thinking? I was going for that swampish dead weeping willowy type of tree, but I kinda fell short.

I also want to add some scales to the fish-man. It might get too busy, but I'm going to give it a shot and try to get some feedback.

I think you might wanna look more at the Swampish dead bald cypress to make it more "Swampy"

And yeah the vector God could probably give some insight on how to make it Work better

Sundance, my man. Everytime I look at that 3CHW 5... the one with a certain muppet, i burst out laughing. Probably the funniest picture on CA in my own opinion. Well, I've linked it in my signature for all too see. Hope your happy you son-of-a-bitch.

Sweet love, (would expect anything else),

    Back To The Drawing Board

OK... so I hardly ever finish anything, but I start a lot. I think I am going to go Necromancer on this sketchbook and try to post the things that I start... even if I don't get them finished...

So, this is one that I got finished, but not cleaned up... and not scanned in time for the deadline. I may still go back and clean this up since I really like the image.

ChOW whatever; for the character of "Night":
