Academy of Art Housing

I've read through all the posts about AoA, and I've read through their housing .PDF file, but I need some firsthand experiences.

The PDF says $3600-7000 a semester for housing, but I can't find anywhere what my options are, can anyone tell me what I'm looking at for rooms etc?

I'm an avid gamer, and IF I have free time, I'd love to hop on some Counter-Strike or something. Is there anyway to have an outside internet provider set up my room for some high-speed internet? I'd prefer a co-ed dorm, and it looks like they have two for freshman only, any opinions on either? Or maybe the co-ed ones were just absolutely horrible?

I have just started looking at housing outside of AoA, but I'm looking at about $1000 per month as the cheapest, has anyone had luck somewhere else, or any good places to stay?

I know some people who have stayed at the AAU dorms, and all have hated it. I'd advise you look on Craigslist for something nearby.

And even in SF, seven thousand a semester for student housing is crazy high.

I've looked at craigslist, thanks for the advice, that definitely made me happy at what the prices are. Do you know what people hated about the dorms?

Mostly that they're overpriced, given how tightly they pack you in. They put four people in what should be a fifteen hundred dollar a month apartment, than charge a thousand dollars per person per month.

Plus, normal dorm issues of poor maintenance and inconsiderate neighbors.

I'm paying 850 a month, sharing an apartment with a friend in the Richmond district, have to spend half an hour on the 38 bus to get downtown, but the area is nice and the rent isn't bad for the place we have.

I have only heard bad stuff about the AAU housing, so for me it was never really a alternative, both due to the price and due to the fact I'm going straight into a MFA and need privacy, peace and quiet, which I guess dorms aren't known for. =p
