    Sf kids where you at!

So POD studios open tomorrow and like everyone else I am pumped to get set up and get started. Are there any other students in town (SF branch) yet that want to go down to the studios and set up shop? Send me an email if you want to- and actually I'm going to life drawing tonight (there is literally life drawing somewhere in the city everyday of the week!) if anyone else wants to meet up!

Hey, yea I'm in SF now. Just arrived on the weekend and am on the hunt for a place/couches. ha
I'm just about to check into a hostel this eve.

Will probably be preoccupied with all that for a bit but am hoping to get down to the POD tomorrow at some point.

Just spoke to Dorian Iten on the phone. I guess for the next couple days they will be cleaning up the studios. I think you and me must be the only people who have contacted him so far-that are in town. They might need help with clean up so we could see if they need hands. A lot of people won't be expected until Thursday-ish.

Good luck with apartment hunting- I'm sure you will find a good place easily. Craig's List is your friend!

My thoughts, as well. I got your e-mail, Tanna, and replied already. I also heard we could store our supplies in the studio. We should take photos of the studio once we arrive and post them up for people who are curious as to what it looks like. It would be fun to go out sketching, too, before classes start officially!

Hey guys i'm here too, i've spent a week trying to find a place to live, and i'll tell you it's like hell out there, it's really, really hard to find a decent cockroach free place for a decent price in this city..(if you need temporary housing, hotel tropicana on 663 valencia st is nice and cheap)
however i just made it but i still need some furniture,
which will take a couple more days,
    then i'll need art supplies..
by the way i've found these places not too far from school
    http://www.flaxart.com/pages/directions.html
    http://www.dickblick.com/stores/cali.../sanfrancisco/
maybe you guys need to buy stuff too..

I passed by the school (301 8th street right??) last week when i arrived in sf, but couldn't find the right bell to ring at, there seems to be no TAD or atelier sign anywhere...any clues??

If you guys want to meet after thursday please let me know, send me a
PM so we can exchange phone numbers.

    Keep in touch.

    Hi,
I'm not a TAD student, but I live in SF and have been a resident here for 8 years and I am native to the bay area, so I might be able to help you out.
Craigslist really is the way to go for apartments, but if you're looking for affordable and not cockroach infested, I would really steer clear of downtown. The best you will get for $700 a month or under is a small studio that was once a hotel room in the 1920's, and no guarantee of cockroach free.....(I used to live in a studio on bush and stockton)
The mission has some nice places, and even in the soma, just keep looking on criagslist everyday. The panhandle area is nice, and if you're willing to do a bit of commuting, the richmond and sunset are the nicest and cheapest places to live here. I live way out there in the sunset by the beach, but I live right by the L-train which gets me downtown in 20 minutes, which isn;t that bad....if you live on the richmond side, you take the geary bus and it takes forever.....best to live by a rail-muni. in the sunset you can find rooms to rent for $500 and under. It's hard, i know, because you have to find a place where the roomates are harmonious with you.
Until then, you can always check out couchsurfing.com, or hostels...or temporarily a residential hotel, but those suck because there is a guest curfew...but it would only be for the time being while youre still looking for a more permanent place.

best place to furnish youre apt for cheap, if youre not too sketched out by this, is either craigslist free section, or going furniture hunting on the street. everyone who lives here who wants to get rid of an old piece of furniture puts it out on the street for anyone to take. i furnished my first apt this way.

anyways, im not a student, but i am an artist, i participate and make art at/for a lot of the events here. you guys are welcome to get together and hang out with me, come to my studio in the sunset, see the beach and stuff....
    cheers!

Not much left to clean for the week. Some of us spent the whole day helping Dorian out. A few hustle and bustle left to be done, but we got most of work done today. And by work, I mean practice martial arts, grab some good lunch, and study Tai Chi as well.

I'm in town as well. Been here since Friday! I'm really busy trying to find housing, and wasn't able to help yesterday. I'm really hoping to stop in today and get in on the action with whatever is still needing doing. See everyone there.

Chris; I just looked at an apartment in SoMa.

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/apa/1829124991.html

Looks like they've got a few, and seems like a sweet deal, really nice place. I'm just trying to figure out what the catch is... Dodgy area maybe? Any SF locals want to shed some light on the place? It's 88 Perry St. I do notice when googling that there's an "erotic massage" business listed there, and some arrest report. lol :/

I quess everyone are really busy trying to find apartments as soon as they can, i am anyway.

I still have quite a lot of stuff in there - paint, equipment, art. What's happening to all of it? And when can I recover it all?

You only finished school like what a year and a half ago! You can reach dorian at dorianATtheartdepartment.org

You will need to have your things out this weekend at the latest so the SF POD can do their thing.

SF is a very mixed city. There are no neighborhoods that do not have dodgy elements. It is the nature of such a vibrant city. Keep your wits about you at all times and stay out of la la land when you are out and about and life should be just fine. Honestly, I used to walk through the worst neighborhoods just for entertainment but got mugged across the street from a restaurant where masarati's and mercedes get valet and by four white suburban guys in abercrombie. haha. Really. Just keep your wits. SOMA is alright.

We're going in on Monday, I've already spoken to Dorian.

Former students and local artists were always welcome at Coro's Tuesday night head painting - some of our own furniture was used for storing paint etc. Almost all the furniture in that place was donated by students, actually. Also, we had some of our old pieces on the walls. This is a different school, so we'll be reclaiming those.

    Thanks Jason.

Thanks. It is appreciated. I know all about donating things to the school. Trust me on that. I appreciate you having the honor of doing that though.

Glad you found Dorian. He is very helpful.

Just a followup on the Yuba Buena Commons in case anyone was curious; I'm reading the contract at the moment and am not strictly eligible. It's for people with a particular annual income so I'll need to adjust the contract if I continue...

But I checked them out... Really nice, close to the POD and well-priced, buuuut... It's very strict. It's reminiscent of some elaborate human storage operation. I went to ask a few residents what it was like living there and got mixed responses. And by mixed I mean no response from some, just empty stares, and "Seems good" from others. It's kind of like an alternate reality where there's even a contractual 'nuisance' clause that you're not allowed to disturb other tenants in the building.

But it'd probably be fine to live in while attending TAD, assuming they don't discreetly release some sort of mind control gas while you sleep.

If someone still needs a place to crash while looking for housing, you're welcome to use my couch. Or if you want a lift to check apartments, I can take you around for a couple hours this weekend. Have someone coming over on the 13th, but my living room is open till then.

I'll be down in Mtn. View today till like 6-7 pm, back in the city after that.
