Sketchbooks - Idea Development, Process, and Personal Point of View Development -

FOUNDATIONS | SKETCHBOOK with Ron Lemen & Sterling Hundley

As the birth place of artistic ideas, the sketchbook is where the creative person develops their own unique point of view. In this highly informative class, students begin to fine tune their ability to communicate through their art. The sketchbook class illustrates the importance of personal idea exploration, and provides a safe place to make mistakes and explore content, and, naturally, to practice their skills. This class is geared toward students who wish to have a wide variety of abilities to design, compose, and create from life, reference, and imagination. This is one of the single most important classes TAD offers and is mandatory for all students enrolled full-time.

There are lecture/presentation/demo days which are done live and On Demand. Assignments are given based on real professional projects and situations which will challenge your mind and skill. Homework is given, which can be done during class time on review days. Review days require viewing as well since you will learn as much or more from seeing what all the professionals say about others works and process. If you have to take the class On Demand then you will upload your homework to the system and leave your questions in your post. That way you can get the answers you need even if you have a schedule which requires On Demand only.

Demos/Presentations etc...are done with images, live video, recorded video, voice, paintover, and white boards....and webcam too. The tech allows for the instructor to work very closely with you. You can use your mic and speak directly with them, raise your hand and anything else you can do in a normal class.

    Hope that answers the question...

I just signed up for this class and am very excited to be taking part! Thought I'd ask here-- do you know if the instructors will be providing a different materials list than the full supplies list required for full-time TAD students?

Yes. Sketchbooks will require the following to start.

    Sketchbook
    Pencils
Eraser (kneaded and white plastic eraser"
    Razor Blade (flat kind)
    Pencil Sharpener
Moleskin or similar sketchbook. Carry size...not too small not too big.
Photoshop or Painter 11 and 6x8 or 9x12 Wacom Intuos (any version)- Laptop preferred but not required as digital painting on site is a joy.
Digital Camera to shoot your work and even document what you have been out sketching.

Other media may come up for use, but those are the minimums for this class

thanks for the list, Jason. I have an old version of photoshop - will that suffice for this class, or do I need to go for a newer version?

    New Instructor for the Class

Hello Everyone, Ron Lemen here. Just wanted to give a heads up that I will be taking over for Brad Rigney as he has other obligations to take care of currently. I am looking forward to teaching this class and working with all you talented young future artists. Here are a couple images to view, I am not very organized currently, and cant show a good number of recent works, but I hope these will satisfy for now.
I have been teaching a lot, working with WOW, Marvel, Apple, EA and a lot of other great things I can't wait to chat about in the near future.
Thanks for having me along with TAD and I am really looking forward to all the learning.
    See you on the 12th.

    Ron

    Ron-

Welcome and thanks for joining the team!

I have several students that have attended your classes and speak highly of their experience. One student in particular, Jane Radstrom has gone on to become one of the premier Academy graduates.

Ron so awesome to see you fill in!

I was just looking at the Imagine FX issue of Anatomy and was happy to see you discuss different ways of constructing a figure - specially when you went into Reilly's method. You were definitely one of my most abused "here's a tutorial to help you out" pointers with your various sites on art instruction.

Don´t think jason has made the thread yet, I am guessing he would then send us via email a link. Though scan in your assignment, and we can show it on the Wednesday class
