    Round #174 Sinful Skinfull

    Topic:
    #174 Sinful Skinfull

In light of my recent borderline failure as moderator, I feel dirty. So, I want you guys to get dirty as well, almost. Somewhere out there in this broad universe lurks a creature that when seen in the right light, has certain attributes that will turn you on in a second, but when you see them and it in the real light, is as repulsive as that used condom you saw lying in the street the other day. One of our weaknesses as human beings when it comes to libido is our biggest organ, the skin. That's what this one's all about. Make it juicy, make it shiny, whatever happens to be your fancy. Design the creature of your fantasies, and nightmares at the same time. No porn or triple penetration allowed, but feel free to use your artistic license on this one. And if you're up to it, show us both versions, in the light, and in the dark.

    Deadline:
    Sunday, April 2nd, 2010

I hope it's alright if I ask for a bit of clarification...

Do "light" and "dark" need to be taken literally? Or may we use some other form of "camouflage/trickery"?

Trying... to find a way of not being turned on by my own creations... ...... ..

*edit* doh.. just remembered the 'not so humanoid' rule back to the drawing board.

Pepokish: No, it doesn't have to be literal. You could think of it as more of an illusion, where when you line things up just right you see something different.

Ok this will be a challenging one, and i suspect, rather X-rated C.O.W. I am in! lol

However I do have a question, is the creatures arousing side targeted specifically at Humans since I know C.O.W rules say "no humanoids"? Therefore it might, for exsample, be abit strange to design an insectoid creature with the ability to turn me on. Or can we design a creature evolved to turn on something nonhuman. I.e. a Cat like creature that in the right light, gets cats in the mood?

Anyways I currently have one of two initial ideas....

Concept A: An ugly, dirty, diseased looking creature that when put under a UV light glows with a pure smooth silken glow. Just like real world Scorpions.

Concept B: a translucent squid/jellyfish like creature that while looking completely nonhuman and unattractive, when bright sunlight shines through it the chemicals in its translucent body glow and shine, producing such a beautiful light spectacle that any species with eyes cannot help but me mesmerized by its beauty, just like moths to a flame.
... hmm, think I have have solved my own "why would an insect turn me on" puzzle.

What do you think? A, B or the no-existent C?

What came to my mind was a bit on the side of classical conditioning. The creature was bred to show an equivalent of neon lights that grew brighter as natural light dimmed. This creature was trained to create intricate designs with its 2 tentacles. In this case the "turned on" response isn't to the creature per se, but to the common connection with strip clubs.

This was the only idea I could think up... It's somewhat difficult to imagine a creature that "turns on" humans. Thought the best route was human intervention.

I've got to ask a question too - so if its not allowed to be humanoid, how do we make it attractive to a human (ie me?).
Can the dark side, the real side be the creature and the 'fake' turn on be more humanoid?

Hey guys. Here's my current WIP. I don't know if I'll stick with this design, it's pretty basic right now, but I think I can make it work. It's a moth that uses a combination of shiny, glittering skin and the hypnotic drone from it's wings to mesmerize men with it's breast-like form. I have yet to decide exactly what it does after that (laying eggs inside said man, killing/eating them etc).

    COW #174 Sinful Skinfull

Maybe not according to the description, but this is the idea I got. Okay, so this is somekind of creature, that when hit with strong direct light, creates a cloak of fur. Giving it a much more cute look.. Not something that turns you on.. and not your worst nightmare.. Anyways, I hope it qualifies somehow.

mmy first try for the COW - sinful and skinful ... WIP

It's a kind of lizard. It could morph his tail end into an animals face to attract them (apes/humans or something). The wreath could send pheromones to entice food animals. The skin clothes around his head could change it's color to attract food animals or expel enemies.
The lizards feed are two suckers to climb trees, the third one is a big sucker to jump around. To eat, he could spit his stomach out his mouth. The stomach will surround the food like a skin and it would be corrode by it's stomach acid.

    hope it's ok. ^^

Interesting topic. My first thought was a condom shaped creature.

Great Seem to come out very scary. to combine the glittering skin with the horror attributes.

For this particular round, it can have humanesque elements, just not be human itself. The real purpose of this topic is to use skin and all of its properties, and a little bit of illusion to convince our human brains that what we're seeing is something sensual but is in fact part of something far more grotesque. Hope this helps.

    Wink

    here's wip i did today.

this creature rapes males of every species it encounters by manifesting its genitals (which are grouping of millions of microscopic tendrils) into the form of a female of that species. it then uses the sperm it receives, and its own eggs (which are able to be fertilized by any species sperm) to grow babies of the fertilizing species. but the babies are never born. when they reach a certain size inside, the are instead ingested for nutrition.

really like the lighting of your artworks (lark. looks good so far.

one question to scorge: could u give some insight in how u paint/render? the lines are so smooth and yet so sharp that i often think u make selections and paint /airbrush tool? smooth outline?) within them while maintaining the sharp outline due to the selection. is that correct? just if u don´t mind, i am pretty interested.
your creature is a bit too humanlike for my taste, but i am really curious how u´ll work out the other side.

gobi: good start so far, nice progress in the steps.

Jan_Jager: alien-bee? looking forward to see the further stages.

thompson46: good concept, "cute" thus "ugly" creature. works pretty well for me. The tailtip is gross, hehehe.

Si_Swe: interesting, really looking forward to see that more detailed. a bit hard to see what is what yet.

Tyrus: if u render that properly this one will be so cute. could be straight out of the sesame street. funny idea behind the creature.

well heres my idea so far:

i hope that its understandable enough and if not point me to the places that are not so clear and ill clear it up,that and any c&c is more then welcomed cuz i wanna adress the issues now befor i colorize it ^_^

some of the issues i know about:

1-the arm with the swallowed chick is out of sync completely.
2-the left leg has some perspective issues
3-the left "lightened" chick's back isnt defined yet and also the legs beneath her/it
4- the sacks above the "darkened" crit head are not defined yet and needs abit of a work
5- the background ofc ,not alot of work there but i didnt touch it yet.
    6- and to colorize it

awsome start ppl ,will ,hopefully, post some crits soon ^_^

acb - nice start, I'm interested to see your colour palette on this one. Though I'd like to see more of the many breasted section on the back there.
aeon - Nice idea, it's like it's doing the "lean over and pick up the pen" trick. I'm interested to see where you bring the monstrous side of it. I feel it should be a little more grotesque than it is at the moment. Maybe if it looked really shiny and slimy or something? I dunno, maybe it's just me. Looking forward to the next WIP.
(lark - Nice concept with a nice start. Though you may need to come up with a reason why the males of whatever species just go up to, what appears to be, a bioluminescent female. I think I myself might be the slightest bit suspicious of that.
scorge - Man, you always make something that looks killer, so quickly. It's left arm looks a bit less rendered than the rest. I'm sure you'll fix it in the next stretch, but I thought I'd point it out. I'm also curious for an answer to ninety9's question.
gobi - Babies are an interesting take on "turning someone on", I'm curious about where you'll take this.
JanJager - Haha. I like the idea of the condom creature. It should have the reservoir bulb at the top, though. Looking forward to your next WIP.
thomson46 - Cool take on the "in the right light" subject. I feel like the flashlight element could be a little more prominent, like darkening the rest a few tones to really get the point across, right now it takes a few seconds to really get it.
tyrus - Funny take on the subject. really working with dynamic lighting could make this piece. Looking forward to another WIP.
ninety9 - I hope it's a little bit clearer as to what the creature is, now. I'm hoping to have side and front views with another illustration to go with the set which will hopefully convey scale, ecosystem etc.

Okay, here's after an hour or two more of work. The side view needs texturing, then the last stage of rendering and touching up. The top view is just started.

New direction. Last one was a little too human.
So, how do I paint? I have to admit my technique changes all the time always looking for the best and fastest approach to what I'm doing. I hop back and forth between PS and Painter depending on what mood I'm in or if there's a brush I really want to get a handle on. For this particular project, I start with silhouettes, nothing fancy, just finding interesting shapes that might lead me to a design idea in Painter using the Scratchboard tool at 100% opacity alternating between black and white. Once I get them fairly well hammered out to where I like 'em enough to start painting, I sometimes use Preserve Transparency for some of the sharper details(fingers, tentacles horns etc) and for the bigger shapes I just paint with 100% opacity and no selection or mask enabled, knowing that I can always go back and paint over something if I need to. If I'm using Photoshop, I rarely if ever use selections because I've managed to get the pressure settings just right on my brush controls and can paint just like I would on a canvas. Here's some of the silhouettes I started with. Hope this answers your question guys. One of these days, when I figure out how to use technology, I'm going to try one to make one of those painting videos.

As for those stars I promised, for some reason the place to add those is giving me a hard time. I'm trying to get in touch with someone to see what can be done to get those to you deserving winners as soon as possible.

si_swe: yeah i actually thought of that as well. the incandescent lights on the lower part of the creature pulse in rhythmic patterns putting the victims in a calming, quasi hypnosis. once the victim is relaxed he receives subliminal sexual signals from the pulsing, putting him in an almost unstoppable state of arousal.
your creature looks great. good start, i think it would benefit from a 3/4 view. maybe even give it a couple of views.

scorge: looks great man, early rendering is bitchin.

here's an update, it needs another pass of detail on most of it. i was thinking of possibly giving another angle, victims point of view. what do you think?

Some cool and rather creepy designs are starting to appear. Great Stuff.

Here an early two WIP's of my creature the Turoktune, an insane beast which use's is translucent skin like a projector. Here's also an early description teaser to help further explain my concept...

The Turoktune or “Light Sirens” are a mysterious species of unknown origin found in the dark back allies and under layers of the luxurious casino metropolis’s world of Laz Raxi. They stalk and kill anyone foolish or drunk enough to enter the cities long abandoned lower levels, and are believed to be responsible for hundreds of missing person accounts, even though the authorises “officially” deny their existence. While no one is believed to have meet a Turoktune and survived, it is rumoured that they lure in their prey with a mesmerising light display which emanates from chemical reactions within their translucent skin, captivating any creature with the ability of sight, creating an irresistible, hallucinogenic and provocative spectacle. They then consume their transfixed prey, incorporating their bones and memories into their own.

Its early days, still playing around with possible colour palette's.
    Any Thought?
