Cow Sketchity-sketchbook and first steps onto an oily path!

For the last 3-4 years I've been lurking and putting off posting my work for critique. So, as a resolution for 2010, I'm gonna bite the bullet and contribute. Be honest and brutal, if necessary, please. Not only can I take it, but I would appreciate it muchly Thanks for stopping by!

    Newest work that I'm pleased with(Feb 10):

Hey Kambei, thanks a lot for stopping by!
I've just moved to London from japan so it's definitely nice to hear from fellow Londoners.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but sketch meet? ^^

It's a promising start, the first post is an eye-catcher. Would be great to pick up the life drawing again and post here so you (and we) can track progression. I think you should post more.

I spent a week at the London Atelier of Representation Art and, using the Sight-size method, I did a cast study of David's ear:

    Hiya

Love the updates..especially the first post and the caterpillar he's just looks so cool and the colours are bright and fresh. Lovely pencil work on the London Atelier sketches and the last concept is pretty wicked, I reckon that begs for a dynamic pose as well where she's flicking the whips (are they whips or curly staffs?)

It would be great to meet up whenever you're in Sheffield, let me know when you're planning on coming up, I haven't gone to any life drawing yet but it's about time I got my arse over there

There is a sketchgroup that meets in London, in Nando's as far as I can tell. There is a thread in the lounge I think.

@Mister Dark - THanks a lot! Then here are some more. Did some plein aire sketching and painting over the weekend

@Angel intheuk - Thanks Ang! The last concept is a Biosonic Clericon concept for Dominance wars and she wields tuning forks on a whip, which she uses to heal her comrades. I agree that she needs a more dynamic pose, so I'll get to work on that as soon as!

Hey Wilko, thanks for stopping by as well! I'm not a student, but I'm thinking about doing an MA at LCC this year. How's the grad film going?

Hey Belindi! You've got some lovely studies and sketches here! Have you tried using an ink pen when doing observational sketches? It's quite nerve racking at first but it gives you a wonderful sense of liberation and it forces you to use decisive lines.

Wah, you've been to Japan recently? So jealous!

Where you at girl? I couldnt agree more about using ink for observational drawing. I'm not sure if its helped me in general, but i did fall in love with ink. I love the pixie thing and hope to see progress on the huntress. Plus im a sucker for sketches so there you have my order. Ill just have tap water to drink. And once again, i love that dragon

    Update!

Hey Jason! Thanks for stopping by! I'm guessing you're back in the states now? How was your trip? Any more tap water dilemmas?!

I totally agree with the use of inks in observation. I did a few life drawing sessions with an ink brush pen (post 3) but havent really returned to them in a while. I really should though! I tend to use ink for thumbnailing these days for solid values, but I really should sketch more with it.

Since coming back from MADE I've properly started sketching again, a practise that I really slacked off for years, and I feel I'm reaping the rewards. I also did a 2 week oil painting course at the Florence Academy, which I'll post some of the images from. Can't believe my last post was in April. So much for diligence! These last two months have been awesomely educational though. Lets hope the momentum carries on!

Oh and btw, MADE photos coming up! A little late, I know, but better late than never right??

Firstly, a few sketches from MADE:
