Thought i'd start over new, since i haven't posted for ages. Started working in photoshop7, so any tips would be great!

Starting off with some Thumbnails and a face/color study i'm working on, any crits welcome, got the same pic over in the WIP section.

your thumbnails are good , but only to the trained eye of an artist , even for your own sake , you should cut down the straight lines and try to go into details , even if they are thumbnails , like a showing hand , or the waist line , the shape of the head ... as for the digital portrait , try painting gray scale and once you got the hang of it you could move to color ... may the force be with you

Well really they ARE for the trained eye of an artists... lol but yeah i can see what you mean, and so i shall work on this! and greyscale.. sounds fun, ok i will try and then update with the grey version! and/or try other pics too.

now onwards with the new stuff, got a few snow board designs, as i'm just scoping out how to use photoshop, and they are fun to make, so here they are:

those thumbs are kinda like an ink blot test, im seeing all kinds of crazy stuff in there...good to see more stuff from ya man....I'm diggin the board designs, though the backgrounds are competing with the boards a little too much...might be nice to stick them on a more neutral grey or something. Keep on painting dude

I like your vector stuff. maybe use a more solid brush for your thumbnails... I didnt realize they were thumbnails until I read your comment. They look at little sketchy and hard to read at the mo.

The first board designs on both the first and second page are awesome. I would ride a board with either of those graphics; however, I would not ride a board that wide (or that short, depending on how you look at it). I think the designs would be more effective if you stayed true to the proportions of a real snowboard. Also, keep in mind that snowboards have two surfaces that can be designed; it might be nice to see both sides.

Dave: Hey dudeage. haha getting different views on the thumbnails. but of course i'll try different things as they are literally my 1st. I hear ya on the board crit, i shall be looking into this!!

coldrum: Will do my friend, doing alot of experimenting with brushes at the moment as it goes.

Ex Nihilo: Thank you, and thanks for that crit, a very good point, i've only been on a snowboard once so of course i missed out the important bits, save a pic of the actual size, gonna work with what ya said, come soon!

Large dump right now, some monsters and portraits of girls i've nailed in the last week, and some of the boyfriends who came home early... and stuff, enjoy.

You have some nice designs in here, need to work on the faces some more they're looking a bit flat esp around the eyes and lips. I know how hard it is to get the eyes right thhough. Keep at it

Yo! Good start to a new SB! You've definately improved from what I remember! Lots of interesting characters in here! Board designs look nice

Some of your shading works kinda contrary to the form it's supposed to describe... I know I know... it's the old "let the strokes follow the shape"-crit, but it's an important one It can flatten shit out, or give the wrong impression of how the shapes curves in space when all the strokes run in the same direction... Hope it helps!

Behold the 90 sketchbook challenge!
I managed to get a joblot of 90 sketchbooks on ebay and have challenged myself to fill them all up, starting slow, 1 filled a month at the very least.
I'm halfway through the 1st one, so I believe I will finish ahead of time

Gotten back into drawing finally! More pictures, not many, but its progress!


I've recently become interested in model making and specimen jars so I had a crack at it. This is my first ever attempt and I'm pretty proud of it, looks nice on my shelf.

Any Crit is welcome.

Some more jar creatures. Only worms for the time being since I have no clay tools to model with and my fingers keep breaking the clay off

If anyone works with latex and clay I would love to talk texture and etc

A latex mould test, I used flour to stop the latex sticking to itself and it works perfectly. about 7-8 coats of latex on the newplast cast so when I pulled the latex covering off it was strong and retained the shape I wanted.
I then stuffed with cotton to give it some bulk and support.

More tests, this time using silicone rubber, its sets much faster than latex and so much more suited to large moulds, its a shame it costs a fair bit more lol.

Pictures od test vials, I am very pleased with the colours of these
will be experimenting with ink and colours more!

Semi completed vial with label test and new water colour, I think it contrasts nicely.

Stained the string on the vial to give it a more rustic feel. Set in tea over night.

New tentacle casts I'll be colouring soon.

Completed a vial, I'm fairly proud of the finished product, I could do better with the label, but overall as a prototype I'm happy with it.

Also my large tentacle cast came out pretty well, planning on painting it in the near future.
