CoolI played with animations lately as well. Do you have a VFX software, like After Effects? You could render z-depth images, then put them and video together to get the DOF effect. I'll post soon a video of turnaround done in that way.
Hay TONIC Im not sure if i have After effects or not ILL have to look around Lol theirs no chance ill be doing all DOF by hand. Ill defiantly have to think more about doing animations before setting my comp to do all that work. Lets see it was 30 secs long and 24 frames a sec Around 720 frames rendered took around 2 days and I forgot to apply all the materials and fix everything up for rendering. Tonic you defiantly have a thing or two to teach me about all this stuff.
P.S. Loving all the minimalistic setups you have I tried something similar but the render dindt go well
O well more wheel work.

For so many reflecting surfaces, it's best to use globals (large images of real world sceneries, like kitchen's interior, or exterior with sky, clouds, trees, building etc.) as the light source. It'll definitely boost the realism. You can download globals on any site related to exterior/interior 3D rendering. It's called as HDRI as well (they were Kerkythea's homepage, but this site is down, probably the main developer forgot about bills in fervor of finishing close beta stage of Thea).
You could increase the number of edges/faces to have a smoother model. After you click on SketchUp drawing tool and before creating shapes, you can put a number of edges, then press Enter (you can see the number at the small text area at the bottom).
For helixes, I'd suggest to use helix-modeling plugin for convenience - check it http://www.cad-addict.com/2009/07/sk...-helix-or.html
