    Mawgs sketchbook

Hey guys, I'm a zoology/palaeontolgy student from Ireland and this is what I like to do in my spare time (ie when I should be studying) I do love science, though if I thought there was any possibility of me landing a job as any sort of concept artist I'd drop everything to pursue it.

I should add that as a child I was inspired to start drawing by this dude. He got me my first sketch pad, b pencils and an Idefix pencil case when I was twelve.

Some from my newest sketch pad. I still need to figure out how to "finish" a piece. PS is a daunting thing to learn.

A lame attempt to use GIMP (Still got no idea about the ins and outs. Must learn)

    Self portrait...

Nah, I'm kidding, it's a running joke amongst some of my friends that I'm a "furry" because I draw so many animals.

    Howdeedo there~!

Have to admit, the expressions you draw are priceless =D They really make your drawings stand out and make them all characters at first glance rather than just a sketch (Sloppy bear is my fave with the cat holding the blue fire a close second)

Comparing the latest human sketch you drew with some of the creatures you've done in the past, I have to admit the creatures came out a lot better looking and more fluid in pose. The fish wielding guy just seemed very static and... plain in comparison. And a lot of the first ones you posted were very nicely detailed too.

Keep up the work and the studies!

Thanks Hitokiri! Yeah, I've always had more fun drawing creatures than humans, I guess you can just go to town on the style/expression since there's no limit to what they can look like. I find drawing the human form a bit boring and I guess that shows up in my art. I recently started life drawing, to improve my human anatomy, so I'll post them up eventually.

Hey, you posted some Orsh. Granted I've seen these, but I love when people come to CA. Best little place on the internet. Man, I could not believe that I already knew your cousin (sorta). The interweb makes the world a small place. More more more! Gotta keep it up.

Good start to your sketchbook, try some more traditional studies. That will help you with everything. Being a zoologist student, I'd imagine you have some good opportunities to do some awesome animal life studies, It would be really cool to see that.

Yeah, I've drawn loads of diagrams of animals and animal skeletons over the last three years, I always throw them out though. Some day I will go into the Zoology department in college and draw all the animals
