Seconded camsyko, animal anatomy studies and creature design
Its more fun to draw cute creatures that you have designed yourself & have copyrights to do whatever you want with them

CamSyko: You're absolutely right. I'll try to get more varied stuff up here, not just Pokémon!
Ricardo Robles: Cool you noticed the happiness vibe! That's quite an important part for me. I've been focusing on figures lately, but its good you pointed out the backgrounds, I need to get back to them.
Nettle_Mountain:Hah, copyright or no, I'll do whatever I want with poor Pikachu! But of course you're right. So now I've gotta dream up some original content...
For now just a very rough robot concept and Pokémon study.

Hey there!
I'm glad to see you're working on taking your talent to the next level. I started out drawing pokemon too. I designed my own pokemon all the time and that's when I branched out to more concept art and character design.
You have a great start here and I see a lot of potential especially with your lines and paintings of environments.
Your finished pieces seem to lack the charm that your paintings have. On the one were pikachu is eating the whole image is skewed a bit. When you're doing your digital work always remember to flip the image every now and then, especially in the beginning stages.
keep it up
Hey Amianna, you're right about the skewed eating-'chu drawing. I put a slant in there on purpose, but didn't control it well.
You mean you don't like the lineart vs the paintery stuff? I try to get charm in my lineart, but it's harder because there's less wiggle room there. Anyway, here's some new rough paint!
And a few more Jolteon studies, just copies from anime frames and such.
I'll probably do some real dog studies soon as well as some more robot concepts.

I just noticed the different hues in those rocks for that pokemon painting. ;u; I love how the distant rocks are cooler shades~
really loving those jolteon, studies, though. Eeveelutionsftw

Yes, there's some color depth! By the way, I used a photo reference for the scenery colors.
And now a weird bunny robot and a dog study. Tried another way to color as well, starting with grayscale. Interesting, but right now I'm a total klutz with it.

Nothing much last week, just some ass.
It's a copy of an actual sprite from one of the games, I kid you not. I just added the text.

Thanks keelman91. Always good to touch people's memories.
Ok Nettle_Mountain, you caught my interest. You gotta incorporate some of that stuff into your sketchbook! Share the love!
Been busy with other things. Time to wake up again!
Some experimenting going on here. Combining oil and airbrush in ArtRage. Playing with colors and saturation. Starting to get the hang of layer blend modes.
Wanted to make it feel dreamy and focus on the hatchling. Placing the egg smack dab in the middle is bad though, but it turned out to be the best crop for the final image.

Interesting image, it´s dreamy like you said. your execution is coming better!
I think you could add some more vegetation in the background.
See you!
Thanks Ricardo! Next time I'll put in more stuff, not just foreground and distant background. Not sure when though, got lots of other stuff to do with higher priority.

The beetle on the first page is amazing. I also admire how you seem to have a good 3d picture of what you're drawing in your head. Nice.

True progress means matching the world to the vision in our heads.
But we always change the vision instead.
Thanks Hajime, indeed I always try to understand the entire volume of something I draw.

Pokemon Porn FTW!!!![]()
Glad I 'accidently' found your sketchbook.
Liking your Pokemon but like the others said, would be good to see you create more of your own [which I see you're doing].
Work on that animal anatomy though as I'm sure that'll be a great help.
Good luck.
Thank you, Porg.
I've been quite inactive, but this will change. Here's a rough sketch to mark the transition.
Yes, it's a study of Pokémon art. I will use this critter for a Halloween drawing. Not impressive, but it heralds a new approach:
1 - sketch with pen and pencil again, no longer 100% digital;
2 - try out GIMP, instead of sticking with Artrage.

NICE pokemon stuffpokemon
Some cool pokemon fanart there Jasper Flick, I think you nailed some of those with a degree of AWESOME. Your non pokemon stuff looks like its improved a too. I like the way that its adding to your fan art.
someone said it though: create your own! the bunny robot is rad!
pokemoooooooooooongreat stuff!
Thanks toastergargletop! You know, I don't actually think I'll create my own Pokémon. When I bother to be original, I think I'll prefer being detached from the Pokémon universe and going off in another direction, like that robo-bunny-gun. Redesigning existing Pokémon would be somewhere in the middle I guess.
zenkislider & Eiki: yay!
Ok, a slightly more polished Darkrai this time. This guy's basically an hourglass with red teeth and arms.
The next step would be the Halloween drawing. Let's see if I can make it ominous.

Halloween drawing got seriously delayed. Ah well.
Here's some Preston Blair studies! Will do more of these.

I should pick up the pace!

Upgrade to pear-based bodies!
I know my copies are bad, but the rabbit is really... abysmal. That's fine though. I prefer to do multiple studies rather than agonize to get one perfect copy, as long as I analyze all mistakes I make (which are legion).

They show a lot of potential. The more multiple studies you do, the better you'll get.

USEFUL STUFF!
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=192127"Everything must serve the idea. The means used to convey the idea should be the simplest and clear. Just what is required. No extra images. To me this is a universal principle of art. Saying as much as possible with a minimum of means."-John Huston, Director
