Wacom Sketches we did during the class. It was fun to draw a model this way.
I hope we do this more.

    wip for "three monkeys" assignment.
so the assignment was: "recreate the art of 'three monkeys', but change the monkeys to strange old business men.".

I like kinda where it is going but i'm not that happy, it took me 7-8 hours to get this far :/ too long.

I need more detail in face and costumes and also the constrast needs to be boosted.

The skull looks pretty cool. But stronger light and shadows would be nice. And the model sketches looks good too, but I suggest that you should study some anatomy. A good start, keep it up man!

If you've time please check out my SB and give me some critic/tips/anything. I won't complain either.

Spaggen: Thanks left you a message.
'Anatomy'...the thing that haunts every artist -_-
but everyday i learn something new about a human part so there is hope.
I will work on the constrast.

    Hey there,

I agree with Spaggen. Other than that-just keep posting! We want to see more!

Visit posemaniacs if you haven't already. Helps out a lot with the human anatomy.

Seems to me that you already know what's wrong with everything, so my suggestion is to just keep practicing drawing from life... you will improve eventually.

Yeah, what the others said... Great start though! If you haven't already, check out Bridgman's anatomy books, they're amazing. A bit intimidating at first but once you get into his stuff it's brilliant. Keep it up

wow i like started yesterday with posting and i love this site allready.
You get feedback from other users so fast. I also had a sketchbook on CGTalk but didn't get any response there :/ So thanks for motivating me

ColorExcursion: Putted Posemaniacs in to my favorites. It's indeed handy for drawing humans.

grriffion & andrea w: it seems that bridgman is the bible. Will check that out. Thanks!

bad_painter: you don't seem like a bad painter if i look at the sketchbook anyhow will practice a lot to get my deserving improvement lol. thanks.
ps: i stole your Dali's signature for my messenger, sorry for that

Hahahaha... well I stole it from Dali, so unless he comes back from the netherworld, I think we're both safe.

Finished cartoon modelsheets. I'm kinda happy, it s the first time i had to draw the same character multiple times...it wasn't easy.

Now we need tot create it in high-poly 3D, i'm really looking forward for that

    Short story:
"John Alan Fraid" : Nightwatcher, had some child trauma's, caused by his parents. They frightened him constantly and now he's afraid of the night and has constantly nightmares at night.
So he changes his lifestyle: works during the night and sleeps in the day. But his body can't handle it. So now he works as a nightwatcher. It's too scary for him to fall a sleep during his working hours.

Niiice charcoal drawings! Wish we did some nude figure drawing in my class as well, waaa... Really liking the cartoon guy as well, especially the drawings where he's holding his torch out like a weapon, and where he's napping at his desk. Great sense of character in those! Gogo moar update! :3

First of all, your class sounds fucking awesome! I'm properly jealous.
Crit wise, I'd say you're going to learn a lot from life drawing, but maybe supplement it with some structural study. Gestures should be a big priority, especially if you're doing cartoony work. I think one of your biggest issues atm is drapery and clothing, and the rendering/description of different materials. So do some quick sketches from life of people whenever you can, just sit and scribble in the folds and wrinkles of their clothes. Maybe set up some still life studies and do some more detailed studies of different materials and surfaces.
But keep it up man, and enjoy your course, sounds like a damn good one!

    Peace
    Dan

I will send more drawings soon, but trying to get a scanner is difficult :/
But i'm trying out some new painting techniques i learned from someone on my school.
She said only using opacity and not to use the 'flow' parameters. I tried painting some stuff yesterday and had the feeling that i had more control over my brush strokes....
    Any suggestions about this?

    @andrea w:
thanks, yeah love nude figure drawing, you learn a lot in short time. It strange you don't do it in your classes? To my opinion it's one of the most essential things to do when trying to become an artist?
thanks, now i'm working the 3d character out in 3d, you can find the link to the wip's on my blog btw.

    @danlambert:
thanks for the feedback. I'm working on my render workflow and hope to get some better structure soon. And indeed for drapery and clothing...need to use more reference instead of just painting some folds.
The teacher gave us a new assignment: 21 drawings of life with environment (with ink)
So will start with that tomorrow and post some progress soon.
    Thaanks.

Yeah i love my education, we only do the fun stuff :p

    Our new assignment.

Creating a Centaur. But instead of a half man, half horse you need to pick another animal.
Also make it fit in the world of "Juna_Gimenez" ( a very talented concept artist who has created a sci-fi world combined with a mid-evil style, be sure to google him)

this assignment is really awesome we have one week to complete him (one render on A3-paper)

I picked an Panda, it sounded like a cool idea because you can combine it with chinese religion and mythology. And pandas are just cool

Image below is the current brainstorming that i did today. My workflow, finding reference, combining this to a few thumbnails, after that combining the best parts to one sketch where i add a little more detail. during this process i can start to think about the overall silhouette and final composition.

    Here is the current progress:

Draw a buncha 90 sec. gestures from posemaniacs

and learn to see infinite detail and dont just draw what you think the line you are seeing looks like, draw the line itself. Hope that makes some kinda sense lol

@colorExcursion: thanks for the feedback. My teacher said the same to me. I often draw just "crap"-lines on my drawings to fill up my drawing. It makes it quiet messy.

Will try to do some sketches from posemaniacs, thanks

the final render of the centaur,
The head and chest had some good comment, and i was also quiet happy with it.

The back and weapon are a bit dull.

but i think I'm improving so "jeeej for me".

    some environment training.
We needed to recompose some environment images. Replace all the elements and had to make a image with "tension", "relax" and "guiding to a spot"
