I just got my walking papers from the submissions guy over there-- they don't want 3D CG and thats what I'm into right now...

Anyway, the thing is he specifically told me he only wants to see fantastic four, x-men, or spider-man for sample cover gigs -- secondary characters don't cut it... I imagine that if it was strong enough you could do whatever you want but it's probably best to hedge your bets.

    Best,
    Jason.

Jason- Thanks for the heads up, you will find work with your style, I'm confident.

Edge- Thanks, I like your avatar animation. Now we're even.

Wayne- Hey congrats on the job and the move. I might have to come and crash at your pad soon I'm a freeloadin' biatch, I know.

Mr. Andrews- I appreciate the words friend. Thanks for taking the time.

Kfeeras- Thank you for taking time and giving me input. I absolutely appreciate it.

snasitra- I have gone to Comicon in San Diego for a few years now. That's actually what got me started on comics. I have actually had quite a bit of positive feedback and some great pointers from some of the well known guys in comics. I even got Bruce Timm to "crush my world" as he put it haha.

Thanks to everyone else I missed - I will have new work to look at soon!

I could see this being a published cover. I think Frank Castle's face looks very consistent - that's difficult to do. Great job.

Your compositions work fairly well but are a bit standard for comic covers, there's nothing that really sets your composition apart from guys like Marco, James Jean, Johnson, Adam Hughes, etc. As has been mentioned they need refinement to be cover material. In some cases it would just equate to you picking a focal point and rendering the ever loving hell out of that area and letting the details fall away around the edges. For the costumes, the love is in the details. What I mean by that is when I see a guy like Grifter, his pistol belt should look like a pistol belt. Don't be so loose. I'd say that each of these would be at about 75% of the way to where they could be.

I have to agree there, the stylised dudes look awesome.

Dynamic poses, epic lighting, they've got the whole thing going for them.

Keep up the good work man.

IT may sound like a pretty extreme idea but print a few of these out at the proper cover size. Perhaps include the title and stuff to make it look a bit more authentic. Take them to a comic shop and place them on the shelf next to other comics. Stand a few steps back and look at how your covers compare in contrast, focus, and genreally if they stand out enough. It may be through colour composition whatever. This should give you a pretty good idea about how your cover sits in reality. BEcause really a cover is really about selling the product so it's about face value. After doing this, if you do, you'll probably get all sorts of ideas. And think "Man I could maybe change this colour or perhaps I could really simplify things so that it stands out amongst all these really busy looking covers".
PErsonally, I think you have a really good chance of getting work, but of course it's not up to me.

with the greyscale one you need to make the shades of grey in the background work in a different way- for the darkest areas, make those lighter, and that way there is less of a range- making it look like it is further away in the atmosphere (when you look at the shadows of mountains at a distance they are quite light compared to shadows in front of you.)
I would suggest re-working that for sure, and also i think supermans pose is too static and i dont think the symmetry works, or it needs to be made more interesting.
for the ground in the one above superman, i think you should find some reference somewhere and rework that too.

the last one you posted is a huge improvement!
    keep it up!

Lookin good! The only part that looks weird to me is the little deadpool dude, maybe have deadpool where the other Frank is behind the bricks? Sorta of echoing the shooting motion of punisher? Possibly rushing towards the left side of the page swords out? I dunno, just feels like he could've been placed better to drive the story

Since it's been a little while,

This is an illustration I did last year for a one shot preview issue under Dark Horse called 'The Descendants', unfortunately it never was published.

It was my first attempt at sequential art. If memory serves, each page took 10-12 hours worth of work in Painter.

I was promised payment and received nothing. The sad thing is that it is just as much my fault for not signing a contract in the beginning.

    Anyways,
The issue was called "Coin Toss"

To my eye, the first piece looks a bit strange near the upper left corner/edge. I think this is because of how the monster's neck follows the edge of the picture. My apologies if someone else already mentioned this.

All the same, these are some very nice paintings (much better then I can do). Good luck with the job!

edit: Silly me, not reading the entire thread before posting. I was referring to the first piece in the original post. The rest look awesome too!

Sorry to hear Dark Horse burned you like that. Fuck'em if you didn't sign anything shop it around. Your hero does look too close to Dare Devil and he has the same body language, so that might be a major problem.

Your storytelling seems clean, but the contrast is a little muddy. Many of the panels are in need of some crisp edges.

I'm glad to see somebody who is working great interiors and not just covers. I hate buying comics for the cover. So keep fighting the good fight.

Hey Man, you knocked that PUNISHER piece outta the fucking PARK! Seriously, I like all your other work on here, but you really nailed that punisher piece. You really captured "The Punisher" in a nutshell, and I think your design is spot on. Nice work.
