okay. I just got the time to read through the comments, and I understand that you have more of Fixlers works, but you won't show them, because a book with his drawings, maybe will be released.
If this book will be available someday, I would sure like to know.

If anyone is interested in finding Fred Fixler's drawings you can contact CAI in Westlake, Ca.

They have hundreds of Fred's drawings and are currently photographing them to get his work recorded. I last heard they may put out a book, but I'm sure they would be interested in hearing from people looking for his work.

Unfortunately, there are no websites that showcase his work, only on the walls at CAI.

Below is some progress on a Conte drawing on Grey Strathmore paper. I'm using a dark red Carbothello pencil, 645 and white Carbothello on toned paper.

Mydrako - Thanks. I didn't know they were from Harold's book, Some of them are plates that I added too and the face handout is a pass me down from CAI and other small figure schools in the area. I paint a lot - I'm trying to finish a body of work, my first, then I'll put it out there. Right now I need to let it grow. Why is painting such a pain in the ass?

This is one of my former students. She has great shapes and I loved the contrast of her hair against the white paper. I used Vine, 2b charcoal pencil, compressed charcoal, conte, and a little graphite to flatten down some of her shapes in her face.

I chose to simplify out her basic planes in her face. I like playing with how little information I need to have a form read. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I feel it's important to try it out anyway, the worst that can happen is it fails.

When you said you use 2HB-4HB on newsprint, did you use 4HB for the very darks too or did you use something else? I usually need to switch to 6HB or other media for that if I want to go black black.

Kaycy is tanning - When working on Newsprint I only use 2b and 4b charcoal pencils. When using charcoal paper I go into Conte and other mediums.

here's a portrait I'm working on. It's charcoal on white charcoal paper. I've been implementing the use of a sharpened end of a paint brush to flatten down tones instead of blending and using very hard pencils over softer pencils to also flatten down tones.

Welcome back.. we have been missing ur beautiful works... Another great work in the making. I loved how u create the wispy feel of the hair and the soft tone of the skins. I notice though the highlight running down the bridge of the nose seems abit too narrow and intense, make her nose seems rather sharp.

Hope love this new head drawing! you mean the wooden end of the brush for blending ? Can't wait to see how you do your drawings in Jan! Looking forward to it... and -- you're right my drawings and paintings morph depending on the teacher as I try to really figure out what they're doing.. sooner or later it will settle down into.. me ?
