I apologize if you've seen some of these before as I posted a few in another thread a while ago. But other than those few, the rest will be new from now on.

Hey congrats on getting into animation, it's cool that you are starting a sketchbook. I love those hand studies and also this one:http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...3&d=1208636617
I did the same portfolio too but I didn't get accepted, guess I'll have to do a fundamental year.![]()

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
enrigo - don't be discouraged about art fundamentals! I didnt even bother applying to animation while i was in high school because I knew that I wanted to take Fundies first. I don't regret it at all for a few reasons:
i. I met a lot of cool people and made some amazing friends that I wouldnt have met otherwise because not everyone in fundies goes into animation (some are going into illustration, interior design/decorating, photography, etc.)
ii. Art fundamentals is a lot of work. and animation is even more so. Im glad I took fundies because it really prepares you for the pace of college and you understand how things are marked, how to manage your workload, and you get used to being around the school 24/7 (and spending a ton of time on assignments). I know that if i had applied to animation and gotten in (right out of high school) I would definitely not be able to keep up with the workload and my skills as an artist would not be up to par with other first year animators. (you have to keep in mind that a large percentage of animation students are coming form art fundies / Visual and Creative arts and some of those students are already in their mid-twenties)
iii. Being in the school for long hours during 'portfolio-making season', as a fundies student, was also very helpful. You get to see what other people are doing / the amount of effort they are putting into their portfolio (so you know what level your pieces should be at); you can ask teachers for critiques; and you can also meet animation students and get their feedback as well.
Art Fundamentals is a lot of fun but also a lot of work. I think it is a perfect transition course between higschool and animation. (or a good transition between any other less demanding program and animation). Definitely use your time in fundies to your advantage and good luck with portfolios next year!
If I see you around the school during portfolio time, I would be glad to give advice!
matt Thanks for the congrats!
I don't know if I should post the 3D work to the 3D forum instead but I figure a sketchbook is a compilation of my artwork and studies, so why not put it here?
I hope no one minds.
I went away for the long weekend and did a little bit of drawing.

An oil painting of a toothbrush.
I had a lot of fun doing this piece.

that toothbrush painting is rad, love the vibrant colors![]()
nice sketchbook, looking forward for more!
A little tip: doing more studies like you did with the hands and you will improve even more and faster.
Gl and hf.
Eva - Thank you. I had a lot of fun doing that painting.
Lyno - I have been trying to study a lot of Bridgman lately but between 6-7 days of work a week, it's gotten a little bit tricky trying to balance art and socializing. Your comment was very motivational though, so thank you![]()
I will try to post more soon.
hi nicole, you have really good stuff in here,i check out your first sb thread and I love your clean line so hope this thread to grown in one bigger and full with amazing drawing thread. I am interesting in cartoon style too and I think we can help each other so if you want PM me
best regards
Peter.
Peter - Thank you for all of the positive feedback. I hope that i will have 'amazing' drawings here some day. We'll see what happens. I am always looking for feedback and just as willing to help others if needed.I'm going to take a look at your sketchbook.
Hi n.contemporary,
Thanks for dropping by my sketchbook and leaving a comment, I really appreciate it.
As for your work. The hand studies are REALLY good! Very nice contour lines. More of those definitely. The beauty bag is really life like and very nicely rendered. Let's see some more life drawings. It look's like you are getting a good eye for the life drawings now just slowly translate that into the drawings from your mind. I would also encourage you to start drawing anatomy and people from life.
Keep working hard!
PS. That statue look's freaking awesome! That's help you big time understanding form!

Your drawings are looking great so far. I love the way you rendered your makeup case, it's so real. Also, it's great how you made the toothbrush look so transparent. So how are you enjoying Sheridan? Would you recommend it to others? It's a school I thought looked nice so I want to know other's opinions on it.
wow, thank you guys for looking at this thread and leaving such nice comments.
YuZa - Thank you for so many compliments! I do life drawing at school but I don't think I'm too great. I promise to post some soon, though, once I'm back at school for critique sake.
Iven - Those hand drawings actually weren't used for my portfolio. To see my accepted animation portfolio you can go to my blog: HERE and look through the older posts (you cant miss it). I'm glad that you like my style.
Alexandra - I'm glad you like the toothbrush painting! I don't think it's the most amazing thing that i've ever done but it was one of the most fun/interesting paintings to work on (so i always get excited when people like it). Sheridan - I love! Yes, I would recommend it to others. Mind you I was only in art fundamentals last year and I have yet to start animation (in a few days, though). But from my experience the faculty and students are all very approachable, helpful, and inspirational. I don't know what else to say but if you have more specific questions about the school let me know and i will try to answer more efficiently.
A little sketchbook/artwork dump.
It's summer and I seem to be very busy so I havent had too much time to update. Here are a few more pieces for you to look at.
A plant girl, a very little/quick sketch of the joker, and a painting of a girl.

Didn't think I'd be updating here again but I've decided to make an effort to post now and again. Here are some new sketches. enjoy![]()
I have a long way to go with digital painting. Some sketches, mostly for practice.
I'm diggin' all of these. Its hard to tell though, because the style they're in is so varied (certainly not a bad thing) but are all of these from imagination or did you use references for some. Either way, its still boss.
Great stuff, and I can't wait to see more :3
nice stuff, more consistency!
Dr. Blindsy - thank youeverything is from imagination minus the drawings i do from life. I use a bit of reference when digital painting (in terms of tutorials/techniques, etc.)
Giorge - Thanks!
