a 40 minute study referenced from characterdesigns website.
the line is getting better in this last sketch.
The proportion of the middle part of the body is wrong (too short), but you will correct it with some practice![]()
I have a sketchbook!
Thanks for that alice. I was wondering why her arm on her hip was falling lower on my drawing than on the reference. When I changed it to where it was her arm looked wrong. Looks like I need to give more length to the torso. Thanks for pointing it out. I couldn't see it, but now I can.
Those female studies on page one were good, but what happened on page two? The torso proportions are off and maybe her boobs are too big [never a bad thing though]. Practice on the chest will help and remember that 45 degree angle from the depression in the neck [centre between the clavicles] coming down to either side of the torso. Within that line will be the nipples of the breasts. It's also a good way to work out the thoracic cage [ribcage].
Was it life drawing on the first page?
I always have difficulties with torsos...Bridgman helped me in that direction
I have a sketchbook!
More bird studies for college and some random doodles.
more bird studies for our assignment. Adding to my pages and some extra bits. I really want to concentrate on figures, but College is taking most of my freetime.
....and......more birds.....
the bottom one is really really pretty
One crit: what about if you try to render the deepest colours with the pencil?
Since your proportions with the birds are getting really better, you could consider on concentrate on it; or you could concentrate on the line, and try to render the plumes with it.
Just an idea for your experiments![]()
I have a sketchbook!
Thanks aliceI will try the method of which you speak. For now, here's some I did before I read your reply.....
sweet sweet birds!
And their eyes are starting to appear more alive!!![]()
I have a sketchbook!
Thank you so much alice. I am happy that there is someone here to keep me goingSometimes, just feel like giving in, but no. I will persevere. Took some time out to do something for fun. A portrait of Drusilla.
Hi Oakseed!
I didn't know you were on here, nice sketchbook. You know the newest one is my favourite.
I tried to make a sketchbook on here a few days ago, attached about 40 images to my opening post, then lost them all before I'd written it. Took me an hour lol so I gave up. I might try again today
Seems like a better place to get some crits on work than over at IFX...
It's nice we shall improve together, your stuff is looking better everyday, keep it up!
-Alex.
WhoaAlex....HI
ha, fancy that. Tes CA is better for critism but ifx is a great place for support and encouragement. Alice on here has been real helpful.
I sometimes have problems with ca for uploading stuff. I think it's because there's so many folk on here it seems to lag out a bit. Will be nice to see your work on here though. Looking forward to see how we both evolve.
Get your sketchbook up and I'll subscribeI like your work and progress.
Nice portrait ^_^ she has an interesting glance! :p
In my opinion, it's really really important to remember the importance of the FUN.
I mean, while I was exercising and striving for growing better, it happened to me to feel exausted and frustrated; studies, studies, studies, a lot of things to learn (and I mean, not just something to correct, but the impression of needing to learn about...everything), and the fun can be forgotten.
So...what can I suggest you? Study, always try to learn, but remember also that you draw because you really love it, because it's funny, because it gives you a good time. So take your time for a doodle, for a "wrong" or "unuseful" drawing...I'm sure it will give you the energy and the motivation to start studying again.
At least, it worked for me![]()
I have a sketchbook!
Some loomis studies. Back to basics starting with the "Drawing Head and Hands" book.
good idea to go back at the basis![]()
I have a sketchbook!
I feel i need to, I hate looking through my first page of this thread, lol. So back to basics
I'm enjoying it though. Even picked up a few tips I didn't know before. Probably should be getting on with my assignments for college, but I take to doing my own study to warm up before hand. Thanks Alice.
a few quick studies with a marker pen...
some pose maniacs. Not all that good in respect but fun for a warm up exercise.
O god not you. I thought the IFX crew would never find me here. Great work Oak. Haha just how many IFX forumites are here anyway. Also I guess I'm gonna have to go back to basics too lol
lol Phoenicorn. Hey there. I know Alex is on here not seen anyone else though. not regulars anyway. Thanks for stopping bygood to hear from you
Some figure sketches from reference.
Keep working on the lighting details. youre sketches can use some value in them. Great gesture study's keep up.
I sense improvement!![]()
kymoart - Thank youI really should hit up on the B grades through pencils but I get nothing but a big grey smudge. I'm so hooked on H grades. But your right.
Bullsey - Thank you, really really thank you. I have had a hard time through drawing recently. It's good to hear someone thinks I have improved. This makes me want to carry on.
I havn't uploaded in ages. Here's some stuff I have done in my spare time out of college and work. I really want to spend more time within photoshop and painter as I think I'm just starting to get aquainted with them. C&C please guys. Thanks.
Again I am not uploading enough here. It's been so long, but I am still working to improve. Lots going on with education and work. I cant believe some of the sketches in here. I dont even think I even have them anymoreI think it's time to get this thread rolling again.
Here's a dump of what I have been doing over the past month or so... comments and crits are always appreciated...
