With this next pic, I know I messed up on the left arm. It throws off how I proportioned the torso. After getting frustrated with that, decided not to correct and not to do the head since a previous try on the head left me annoyed with how manly it looked.

hmmm your update isnt bad ... but not that good .... I would advise you first to studie with pencil before painting digital ^^ then you will be much faster and safer in digital too ^^

hey man, good to see you are doing studies
don´t worry about speed, that comes naturally. accuracy is more important in your development. it trains your eye to see.
when you are trained to see what is important when painting (values, form, color, edges etc.) you can think about going faster. but don´t skip or neglect accuracy.

I hope I didnt discourage you by not agreeing.
I like that your first post is in color. and yellow as well. I love painting with yellow. Its really great to studdy color early on its just as important as anatomy. I have problems with my colors beacause I was afraid of it in the begining.
Just do studies and dont get discouraged, learning to draw and paint takes time. And most important tip of all. Have fun and enjoy drawing. Post more and Ill try and give some more helpful adwise.

@Strassen: I do most of my stuff in pencil but having all these dark areas where I've erased over and over is annoying, and with my broke budget it's hard to keep up with. I hope I explained that right? Maybe it's just an excuse. Either way, yes, I will definitely try to do more with real materials. It'd be helpful as far as being mobile goes, and actually practicing with a real perspective point, with all that real-life quickness going on. Thank you.

@Darkside: You've got a point. Do you think I should go back to get rid of things that aren't accurate and keep trying to do it or just move forward while doing studies? For me it seems to take a long time to get things just right in my perspective.

@B-Man: Oh, it's alright! No worries. I've got a lot to learn and if I don't get disagreed with and whatnot, there's not going to be much learning going on. (:
You were afraid of colors in the beginning? I think my problem is the opposite. I have an issue with either using too many contrasting colors in ways that don't really make sense or not using any color at all. Something like that, haha.
I will try to enjoy it. For the most part I do, but in the end I just try to be disciplined with it and get infuriated about that when I fail to. I am my own discouragement. It's rather annoying.

Going to try to do a lot more studies.

Let's hope it doesn't take me 3 hours to really get started and only practice for 20 minutes, then spend another 2 hours debating whether or not I should continue, all the while admiring everyone else's artwork and slowly starting to hate my own again.

You'll get better if you keep on drawing. Remember to do drawing that are fun and that you enjoy as well as studies. Drawing should be enjoyed.
I like your first post, keep working and try for heads as well (It's an important part of a womans body, yeah? Lol) It's okay if a life drawing or two doesn't look good. That happens alot even to people who are awesome.

Your stuff off to a good start, just keep it up!
Draw from life when ever possible. If theres a life drawing with models and what not near where you live that you can go to I would highly suggest that (I should look into this for myself).

As far as studies go, it really depends what you're studying. If you're focusing on anatomy I would highly recommend both Andrew Loomis and George Bridgman, Loomis' books can be found online via pdf's, just google it; theres 5 or so books of his, I recommend them all, but more specsifically for anatomy go for "Figure Drawing For All it's Worth." Bridgman can probably be found the same way but he also has physical books you can pickup and your library I'm sure. Loomis' books are not in print anymore so you have to find them on the internets. Check em both out, some prefer Looms and others prefer Bridgman, there are also a couple other big names like Hogarth and Vilppu, just check em all out and see which one you like best, they're all trying to describe the same thing so it doesn't mater too much which one you study from.

If your looking to study color, life painting helps a lot (or so I've read). It helps you because you really need to focus on the exact colors to get things to look right. Always scrutinize everything! If it doesn't look right, fix it!! don't just leave it and say "that'll do."

What exactly are you suggesting needs to be done? This isn't like a uhh... "oh, you're wrong, my picture is perfect" type of response, I mean it... what needs to be done to it?
I think I'm missing something X:

I know the hair is messed up, and the neck is a bit off... among other things.

Nah, not at all like that. The looseness and rawness of it all is great, it just needs to be controlled better... become more uniform and whole, and integrated into the piece equally...

Instead of random scribbles, make intentional renders. Be aware and give those lines more purpose.

So far the only way I can even draw straight lines is to do them really really fast, which means they extend off the page pretty much \:

That last drawing, despite the problems you mentioned, is looking really good. It's very confident, so it stands up well in spite of the problems. Come back and post more!
