getting rid of outlines.

I start my pictures by drawing the figure (lets say a superhero)

i then colour the image and my black outlines always stand out to much.

i want to be able to creat a picture where the outlines arn't the dominant feature.

here's an example of my work.


would the best way to block out the figure instead of just an outline? and then colour over that?
