Gonna have to eat an F on this one Yoitisi, this past week was hell in terms of my schedule and workload. Things clear up for me come Wednesday though, so I'll be back on track then and I'll catch up with the cubes just for my own practice. Sorry for dropping the ball on this one, but it was unexpected.

Meantime I've been doing the warm up line exercises daily to keep in shape.

the cubes are still too tall but better than before.
i did both methods for the assignment 4, i liked the first one, it's simpler. the second one was too messy for me, i already have trouble drawing one cube, so putting more than one neatly together is crazy.
(the shaded one was done with method 2)

Form2function: Fair enough, though I'd advise you to try those cubes later on before we go on with the follow up assignments for the cubes. Next two assignments will be ellipses where we will need some cubes probably but nothing too complicated there.

I'll close this thread in about 12 hours from now I think, just so you all know

Yoitisi - added up a few more practices into my last un-commented on post (as believe you suggested to someone else). I had a question though, will you cover marker techniques in your mentoring or is there are book or website you could recommend for getting the most out of markers?

    Cheers.

D-Holme: Yep I'll check all the posts from after my last round of critiques so that's fine. As for the markers, I intend to write a piece about that (might make it into an exercies as well, not sure yet). For the moment though it isn't necessary information so I postponed it a bit

I'm closing this now, I'll put up some more critiques later for everyone and a list of people who didn't finish this time (I'm going to do this every round; for myself to oversee your progress, for you to feel ashamed about and for other people to laugh and point at you for not doing your homework, so make sure you get your stuff in on time )

Alright since I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for a someone to turn up, I might as well spend my time giving some critique in here.

Jorge Gecov: Take care with those cubes, almost all of them look too flat to be a good cube. Commencing witht the construction cubes, the vertical seem to give you some trouble as well. Simply comparing them with the edge of the paper, or in this case the edge of the image, shows that they're a quite an angle instead of being nice and vertical. However, you seem to improve most of this in the last cube One thing with that one though is that the perspective seems a bit off in places, not all the lines go to the same vanishing point at the moment (some are even diverging, the top cube for example).

Asmodie: While I agree that last one looks better, there is still a couple of issues with it. As Jorge Gecov's, some of the vertical are a bit at an angle and the perspective is slightly off in places.

Legato: What I like about yours is that it seems you've got the drawing of nice straight lines down and all. However, a lot of those cubes aren't real cubes but are either a bit too heigh or a bit too low or too deep. There are a couple of good ones in there as well though. I know the eyeballing may seem tempting but the two cubes in perspective on the right in the last one for example is too long to be two consecutive cubes. the bridge thingy I'm not going to explain right now, we'll get to that later on.

hamtaro69: A lot of drawings, nice to see that you're putting some effort into it Not much to say actually. Some of the cubes look off, same problem as I said before. However, there are a couple of cubes in there that look okay so I think you've got the basic here. The last one with all the divisons and stuff looks good too. A few little perspective issues here and there, but I'm sure you get better at that on the way.

Have to go now, I'll get along with this in a couple of hours.

    Continueing the crits:

D-Holme: Improvements Though you have another problem that seems to pop up, the side with the steepest angle is too long in most of those cubes. Taking your last cube with all subdividing, the right side of those cubes look like a nice square in perspective, but the left side is a tad bit too long. Also, the cube above that, the yellow one, has that problem I pointed out in my first comment (angle A and B are the same and thus the rib at the far rear dissappears behind the front rib).

Enrigo: The only trick to those 'parallel' lines is to imagine a vanishing point somewhere off your sheet of paper and aiming your lines to it. Remember that the perspective dictates that the lines converge and aren't really parallel (if you meant the verticals though, keep an eye on the edges of your sheet while drawing them). Looking at your drawings I'd say that is indeed your biggest problem, especially when you look at the rear rib of the cubes that rest on the floor. The three ribs in the same direction that are actually visible go all to the same vanishing point, but the one you can't see if this was an opaque cube goes in a completely different direction. The last image looks somewhat better, although there are still a couple of lines not really following the perspective.

Pomegranate: Some of them are indeed a bit too tall, but the one with the circle around it looks good to me The other two cubes with the construction look okay, although especially the first one looks too tall again. Also take care that the steeper you chose the angle A or B, the more foreshortening that side gets. I think in the second construction the cubes are too deep at the right side. The first method is indeed the one that gets the best result, it's just not always the quickest.

I think I'll reopen the thread now, so if you have any further questions regarding my critiques or anything else that has to do with this exercise put them up here. No more cubes though, I won't have time to keep commenting on everything

Short list of people who didn't complete this assignment (please note that if you miss too many of these in a row I'll have to remove you as one of my mentees):

    form2function
    Ixupi
    Lez

-Both form2function and Lez explained their reasons, so no worries there. Lez, if you still want to post them now that you're able to, do it here rather than in the Lurkers area
